Subject: Oh Mother How pretty the moon is tonight From: Kevin Date: 22 Nov 96 - 11:29 AM Anyone Know the words to a song my grandmother used to sing? All that I can remember is: Oh, Mother how pretty the moon is tonight. 'Twas never so pretty before. Its two little points are so sharp and so bright, I hope it don't grow anymore. Thanks, Kevin |
Subject: RE: Oh Mother How pretty the moon is tonight From: stephens@execpc.com (wyatt stephens) Date: 09 Dec 96 - 04:10 PM Another piece of it: Here's the way my wife learned it from her grandmother in Oklahoma about 50 years ago (wonder if your grandmother and my wife's grandmother learned it the same time and place): "Oh mother how pretty the moon looks tonight, It was never so pretty before. It's two little horns are so sharp and so bright I hope they don't grow anymore. If I were up there with you in the sky We'd rock in it nicely you'd see. We'd sit in the middle and hold by both ends, Oh what a nice cradle 'twould be, 'twould be, Oh what a nice cradle "twould be." |
Subject: RE: Oh Mother How pretty the moon is tonight From: Kevin Date: 10 Dec 96 - 12:41 PM Thanks for the words! My Grandmother spent most of her life in Massachusetts and I'm sure she had never been to Oklahoma. So, unless your wife's Grandmother ever came to Massachusetts, they didn't learn the song in the same place. Thanks again for the help! Kevin |
