Subject: Hey! Ho! Anybody Home? From: GUEST,Tametha Date: 09 Apr 00 - 02:56 PM In grade school I learned a song that nobody seems to remember. It goes something like: "Hey, ho! Anybody home? Meat nor drink nor money have we none. Yet, we will be very, very merry!" It seems like I'm missing another verse, but I can't remember it...help!!! I wanna sing it for my kids... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hey! Ho! Anybody Home? From: Barky Date: 09 Apr 00 - 03:12 PM Tametha: I don't think you're missing any verses. It's a round that goes: "Hey, ho, nobody home. Meat nor drink nor money have I none..." Right there, the next person starts the same verse. This keeps on going forever and ever and ever and ever... and you get the point. ~Barky |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hey! Ho! Anybody Home? From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 09 Apr 00 - 07:02 PM The song works well as a quodlibet (in harmony with) Shalom, chaverim, Wade in the Water, and the refrain from the Native American chant, Hey, yanna, ho yanna, hey, yan yan (The Earth is our mother). |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hey! Ho! Anybody Home? From: vindelis Date: 10 Apr 00 - 06:50 PM The lyrics I know are on the previous thread, as the Soul Cake song. I believe it is one of the many wassail songs that used to be sung around about Christmas/Yuletide time of year. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hey! Ho! Anybody Home? From: Wesley S Date: 11 Apr 00 - 03:03 PM You can find a version of it at www.peterpaulandmary.com. They called their version of it "A'soulin'". I saw the lyrics there. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hey! Ho! Anybody Home? From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 11 Apr 00 - 04:50 PM That, and more, may be found through the link Ed provided earlier in this thread. It's unlikely that Hey Ho has any connection at all to any of the Souling/Soulcaking songs (which belong to All Souls rather than Christmas), other than that Peter Paul and Mary thought it would be nice to stick Ravenscroft's round together with one -possibly two- of them, along with another unrelated verse from a carol. It may have been someone else a little earlier, but the fact that PP&M appear to claim copyright in the song suggests to me that that was> them. Malcolm |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hey! Ho! Anybody Home? From: GUEST,NK Date: 08 Sep 10 - 08:24 PM Well the song lyrics are: Hey, ho anybody home? Meat nor drink nor money have I none! Yet I will be merry anyhow. That's the first part. you're supposed to sing it together with 2 more parts. That is how I did it anyway. One person sings this part once, then when they start again, someone else sings this part: 2. I say (fast) (now normal) hey ho heeeeeey hooo. repeat (going lower) Then after some time another person starts 3. (go high, then low on Hooooo.) hey, ho, heeeeeyy hooooo. Repeat Then all end at the same time, all on Hey! 1st person ends on Hey! Second ends on i say hey, and third person ends on hey. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hey! Ho! Anybody Home? From: GUEST,Jack Campin Date: 09 Jan 14 - 02:44 PM An oddity: the first publication of the music, by Thomas Ravenscroft http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/ravenscroft/songbook/hey_ho.html doesn't match Beaumont and Fletcher's words (quoted by Jim Dixon upthread), though the two were published close together. You could maybe make it work by adding B&F's extra half-line to make the round into six parts instead of Ravenscroft's five. Anybody want to try that? |
