Highwayman

> The Highwaymen
>
> Am G F Am
> I was a highwayman. Along the coach roads I did ride
> G F Am G
> With sword and pistol by my side
> Dm Am G Fmaj7
> Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
> Dm Am G Fmaj7
> Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
> Am G F
> The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five
> G
> But I am still alive.
>
> I was a sailor. I was born upon the tide
> And with the sea I did abide.
> I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico
> I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow
> And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed
> But I am living still.
>
> I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide
> Where steel and water did collide
> A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
> I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
> They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
> F G C C/B Am
> But I am still around..I'll always be around..and around and around and
> Am/G F F/E Dm F G E
> around and around
>
> I fly a starship across the Universe divide
> And when I reach the other side
> I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
> Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
> Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
> But I will remain
> C C/B Am Am/G F F/E Dm F
G C
> And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again..

No, it was from 1983, by the Highway Men. Ah...another song of my childhood! Awesome video too!

During a "Hiwaymen" concert (Waylon, Willie, Kris, Johhnie.....with the pitch-challenged Jessie Coulter on piano) my ex broke up with me. Actually she waited til they finished their "hit" and did it during "Whiskey River"!

Good relationship....but better concert. They got an encore..I didn't.

Actually the practice of some old veterans getting together to make one viable act is happening again. Waylon, Bobby Bare, Jerry Reed and Mmmmel Tillis have banded together as "Old Dogs", and are recording and touring. Good on them. They are all wonderful artists who get NO AIRPLAY at all in the "New Country" market.

Yeah Rick, I'm sure "I Can Still Cut The Mustard" would make it big on Billboard country charts! **BG**

Willie, Waylon and Kris also got together with Billy Joe Shaver and Shaver's son, Eddy, to record 10 of Billy Joe's songs: 'Honky Tonk Heroes'. Tasty stuff. It's on Free Falls: www.freefalls.com

Thanks, guest - I knew I had it somewhere, but couldn't think where. It is included on Jimmy Webb's 'Ten Easy Pieces' Guardian Records CD 52826.

sorry to hear you didn't get an encore Rick, but it sounds like your next 'concert' was much better, anyway!

Jessie Coulter? Pitch challenged? May be, Rick, but I got a friend (who hates ANY form of country music) who claims that Johnny Cash TALKS off key!

I saw the writer of The Highwayman,Jimmy Webb, perform the song in Aberdare's Colisseum Theatre about two years ago.The song was superb but the whole concert was absolutely fantastic especially as Jimmy is not recognised as a particularly good singer...I do hope he comes back!!
