Subject: The Star of the Country Down From: GUEST,Helene Date: 12 Apr 00 - 12:59 AM I'm looking for the original or traditional lyrics to The Star of the Country Down, a tune of (I believe) Irish origin. I haven't been able to find them online -- perhaps I haven't looked in the right place. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Helene |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Star of the Country Down From: Chocolate Pi Date: 12 Apr 00 - 01:13 AM Go to the forum page, type "star of" in the filter, set it to a couple of years back, and read the zillions of threads that turns up; I looked those up and found them very helpful/informative after we had an interesting discussion on that song/tune here in my dorm, where I knew it as "Star of the County Down," in 3/4, while my neighbor across the hall knew it as "And Have the Great Immensities," in 4/4, and my friend a few doors down knew it as "I heard the voice of Jesus Say," also in 4/4. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Star of the Country Down From: Amos Date: 12 Apr 00 - 01:16 AM This song is also known as The Maid with the Nut-Brown Hair. It has been the subject of several past interesting threads. The lyrics can be found here . One of the earlier discussions is over here. Other songs such as Gilderoy and Claudy Banks seem to be forerunners of the Star, but I would guess its best known form is as you have named it. Enjoy! |
