If you will go the Radio archives on the menu bar up top and go back, I think, 3-4 shows and listen, you will hear me singing a version I know, then in the show after that, Mudcatter Kendall Morse called in and sang the complete version.

Is this possibly MY SWEET WYOMING HOME? The chorus contains the line "Hum a tune, a prairie lullaby". I learned it at summer camp in New Hampshire full of New Englanders who had never seen the prairie.

Not the one I know as Prairie Lullaby, though the one you posted is a good song, too.

Jimmie Rodgers recorded it in 1932. Paired with 'Peach Picking Time Down in Georgia', it had the distinction of being the last Rodgers recording released while Rodgers was still alive. It was by a tin pan alley composer called George Brown, a Bostonian whose real name was Billy Hill. Ralph Peer accepted only 'Prairie' for Rodgers when Brown came hawking. He turned him away. When asked why, he replied: 'I'm not that hard up. There's a million hacks in New York, and if I listened to one, I'd have 'em all pounding on my door'. Under the latter name [Billy Hill], after the success of 'Prairie Lullaby', he went to have hits like 'Empty Saddles', 'Last Roundup' etc. [Information from Nolan Porterfield 'Jimmie Rodgers]

The Don Edwards' one you mention WyoWoman was written Stephanie Davis and it's a beauty by Don Edwards. For those on the West Coast of Oregon, the Toledo Folk Music Club will have Don Edwards in concert this coming May 24th. Hope to see a few Mudcatters here........Frank

Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer do a nice dreamy little number called "My Prairie Home" by a "N. Thorwardson" (??) on their 1989 Sugar Hill recording.

Hi.
I'm a old strummer and I've been searching and searching for chords to this old tune and can't seem to find them. It's the old Billy Hill tune done by Jimmie Rodgers and others (notably Geoff Muldaur). Is it even an easy to play song (you know, open chords and no weird sussed or sharpFlat stuff). The mudcat has plenty of lyrics posted for this tune, but no chords. Can someone help me with this.

I remember the song well. My mother and sometimes my dad would singing it to us kids. I've never tried to chord to it, I just always sang it to my kids.

Coupla tricks:
After the F, play the three treble strings at the first fret. Don't know what that chord is called. Somebody help me.

F played with the ebg strings on 1st fret is fm according to powertab editor also you all should check out leon redbones recording of this number on branch to branch album he's capo 3 and it sounds sweet

Te first three strings in the first fret is part of Fm. In the third fret you add the D and the A string to get a fuller chord.
Or, the purist would just bar all 6 in the first fret and the D and A string in the third fret.
