I didn't know whether to post this or not, but I know some 'catters have asked about my sister Susan. She will be opening at Greenbank this coming Saturday for Swing Soniq. She is extremely excited about playing this wonderful room. I'm upset that I will miss most of her portion of the show due to another commitment, but I hope to be there for most of Swing Soniq.

The following is from Tony Burns' Greenbank Newsletter.

This Saturday, April 15th. Swing Soniq

SwingSoniq is front-man Greg Leskiw (vocals, guitar), Greg Lowe (lead guitar) and Daniel Koulack (upright bass); a trio of players who celebrate the favourites of yesteryear wIth their contemporary version of swing-jazz. Since their emergence on the music scene a little over a year ago, they have captivated audiences across Canada with their seductive rhythms and engaging style.

SwingSoniq's contemporary approach to the depression-era and wartime music genres isn't confined only to traditional favorites. Songs such as Moon Glow, After You've Gone and Beyond the Sea are peppered with original and unique compositions that compliment the swing era genre.

Leskiw's smouldering voice characterizes the band and with fellow guitarist, Greg Lowe the sound is reminiscent of the gypsy guitar player Django Reinhardt.

SwingSoniq is the most recent of Leskiw's musical successes. Music fans will recognize him as a former member of The Guess Who. An award winning singer and songwriter, he has received gold albums and Juno Awards for Share the Land, So Long Bannatyne, and Rockin' and a platinum record for Best of the Guess Who (Vol. 1).

Opening for Swing Soniq is Susan Latimer.

From Susan's bio:

"From a musical family, Susan Latimer has been playing guitar for twenty years and has been performing for the last five. Raised on diverse musical styles including Bluegrass, Blues, Irish, Classical, Jazz and Rock and Roll, she has a repertoire that draws on all of these. Many of her arrangements of original songs are as popular as her renditions of more widely known material."

There are still a few tickets left for the April 15th concert at Greenbank. If you would like some call Rene at 905-852-7578. It promises to be another fine evening of music. For information on the Greenbank Folk Music Society and directions visit http://www.globalserve.net/~ynot/grnbnk.htm

Thanks for letting us know Steve.
Unfortunately I will not be able to attend, but I was wondering if Susan will be making a CD?
Rick has told me Susan is a very talented musician and I would be interested in getting one of her CDs if she does produce one.

Little Neo,

Thank you for your interest in Susan. To answer your question, Susan is attempting to get funding for a CD. I think it is very close to being in place. She made a cassette a few years ago, but is unhappy with the way it turned out, so she wants to start fresh. She has also written several new songs since then that she would like to include. We are working on a business plan right now to get the funding. Rick has been very helpful and supportive, doing a complete budget for her and offering the benefit of his many years experience.

I'm sure that Rick will have her on his show again, so maybe you'll hear her there first.

Sorry that you can't make it on Saturday.
