Subject: Dillard's Song From: Jim Krause Date: 13 Apr 00 - 03:54 PM I was channel surfing while doing the laundry today, and came accross an old Andy Griffith Show rerun. I stopped when I heard the Dillards playing a really pretty song. Only thing is, the actress who played sister Charlene Darling was singing the lead on a song that contained this part of a chorus The time has come, and we must part ____________over yonder The grass is new, the wood is green The grass is new, the wood is green Does anybody know: the title of the song, if it was ever recorded on LP, the rest of the words, and the composer if it isn't Trad? I only regret that I didn't have the VCR going, and I tuned in late. I looked in the DigiTrad and came up dry. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dillard's Song From: GUEST,Rex Date: 13 Apr 00 - 05:58 PM The song is "There is a Time". I don't have all the words, but I believe the missing words from your verse are "The grass is greener" (over yonder)... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dillard's Song From: Bill in Alabama Date: 13 Apr 00 - 06:07 PM It's a Dillard's song. To avoid having to pay royalties, they performed only original or PD songs on the AG show. Bill |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dillard's Song From: Dale Rose Date: 14 Apr 00 - 09:44 PM You're not going to find that album, though, unless it is a used lp, as it has never been released on CD. Where you WILL find it though is on The Dillards, There Is A Time (1963-70) Vanguard 131-32, 1991. That is a 29 cut compilation from their first five albums, and well worth having. Check out the same link for songs on the album. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dillard's Song From: Rex Date: 17 Apr 00 - 11:02 AM Hey 'twern't me. I didn't say nuthin'. So howdy Rex, it's sure nice to meet you. I've been told before that if you travel around this world enough you'll end up meeting yourself. But I don't think so this time. Could get interesting though. But back to the topic: "Let's play 'Don't Hit Yer Granny With a Great Big Stick'." "Ah, Pa, that one always makes me cry." Rex |
