Hi, folks,

After a very busy week, I now have a vacation week. Today, I put up several new things--changes to email, birthday, & locator pages, as well as all-new photos on Mbo's photo page, a new photo page for T in Okla, an events page for Night Owl & Musicman (Dec. 31, 1999), & a profile of folk1234.

At the beginning of this month, the site celebrated its 1st birthday. In that time, although it is not advertised on any search engines, it has had almost 9,000 visits. The photo pages, particularly, seem to be popular. I'm glad. I've enjoyed maintaining the site. This summer, David & I will be transferring the files from our ISP space to a free web space provider. I will be removing all information that is linked to me. The site can either stand as static information or, if someone wants to take over the management of it, we will be happy to give you the password. If you have some small knowledge of HTML & web page editing, you can probably manage it. I will notify you before we make the change, but, if anyone is interested in maintaining the site, please let me know.

Yes, that's right, Pat. As of this summer, I will no longer be maintaining the support pages. They can remain as a static resource or someone else can take over where I leave off. Perhaps this summer, I'll learn to play an instrument or do schoolwork, like I probably should have done last summer, instead of learning web page design. :)

I haven't felt successful w/ instruments in the past. Lap dulcimer & autoharp have been suggested. Maybe kazoo is more appropriate. I'm still waiting for my pig shaker from Blessings Barbara.

Either of those would be good Barb. You can get some fun "instant results" with an autoharp and can take it to entirely different levels later as you want. I can see it adding something to your group too. You seem like kind of an autoharp player to me somehow. Whatever it is, good luck and let us know so we can give you tons of advice you don't need or want!!!

well, the original site that I started at Fortune City is still there...and they now offer 100mgs of space..but 'unless' you know HTML and ftp and such, it is a royal bitch to update, and Fortune City can be slow at times...so I will be interested to see how it goes. It was sort of fun the couple or 3 months I did it, but I can't predict what the summer will bring...we shall all wait for news..

bbc - I was going to send you a Personal Message saying "Thanks for providing us with a very important part of the Mudcat".

Then I thought that, if a long thread full of people saying "thank you" might be irritating to some people, a long Personal Message page full of the same messages might be even more irritating to you.

And anyway a public service deserves public recognition. Is there such a thing as "The Freedom of the Mudcat Cafe"?

I know how to advertise sites. This one was intended as a private resource for Mudcat members (as private as you can be on the Internet!). Even though many of us are not easily identified by our Mudcat names, I didn't want to advertise the email addresses, photos, etc. for the world to see. What's done in the future is up to the new owner.

No bbc, I wasn't trying to say that. I was trying to show you that inspite of your efforts, it had still found it's way onto a search engine.

I was quite surprised a few weeks ago when I found that one of my pages that was unpublished and not linked to from any other pages that I know of appeared in a search result.

I have watched this community go through a lot of phases. None has brought more joy and genuine worth than yours, Beebs (CAUTION: UNAUTHORIZED USE OF THIS NAME IN REFERENCE TO BBC WILL RESULT IN UNTOLD HORRORS ON THOSE USING IT WITHOUT PERMISSION OF SAID BBC) and David. First time I came across bbc's resources was before I found the Mudcat - I was looking for something to do with the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), on soem search engine or other, and I typed in bbc (lower case), and bingo up it came.

Due to work constraints, I haven't seen much of Mudcat over the last few days, but boy, this caught my eye.

The work that Bbc (and D.&D) has done here is remarkable, and has put a "face" to Mudcat for those who wanted that (me, for one). I can only say "Thank you Barb from the bottom of my heart". Through Mudcat's inevitable (for any community) ups and downs you've represented that extremely important middle ground between a strictly academic site and an increasingly irritating trend towards triviality. There are lots of us here who appreciate your work.

Thank you, Max. I'm honored that you feel the resources site has enough value for you to undertake it in addition to what I know is an already heavy schedule. I appreciate the various people who contacted me by thread, personal message, or email & expressed their willingness to continue the site. I think we will agree that, if Max wants to do it, he is the most appropriate choice. I can continue till the end of the school year or transfer it now, Max, whichever you prefer. We'll work out details as to where, how, etc. I've appreciated all the kind feedback & have really enjoyed the personal contacts w/ Mudcatters that the site has given me.
