Subject: changes at bbc's site From: bbc Date: 15 Apr 00 - 01:10 PM Hi, folks, After a very busy week, I now have a vacation week. Today, I put up several new things--changes to email, birthday, & locator pages, as well as all-new photos on Mbo's photo page, a new photo page for T in Okla, an events page for Night Owl & Musicman (Dec. 31, 1999), & a profile of folk1234. At the beginning of this month, the site celebrated its 1st birthday. In that time, although it is not advertised on any search engines, it has had almost 9,000 visits. The photo pages, particularly, seem to be popular. I'm glad. I've enjoyed maintaining the site. This summer, David & I will be transferring the files from our ISP space to a free web space provider. I will be removing all information that is linked to me. The site can either stand as static information or, if someone wants to take over the management of it, we will be happy to give you the password. If you have some small knowledge of HTML & web page editing, you can probably manage it. I will notify you before we make the change, but, if anyone is interested in maintaining the site, please let me know. It's been a pleasure, bbc |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: catspaw49 Date: 15 Apr 00 - 02:06 PM I assume this means you're not going to be doing it after that point Beebs? I mean you and David have put a ton of work into it and I can certainly understand....NOI.....Just asking for clarification. Spaw |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Bill in Alabama Date: 15 Apr 00 - 02:21 PM I really hate to see you turn the site loose, bbc; Y'all have done a fantastic job. |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: bbc Date: 15 Apr 00 - 02:30 PM Yes, that's right, Pat. As of this summer, I will no longer be maintaining the support pages. They can remain as a static resource or someone else can take over where I leave off. Perhaps this summer, I'll learn to play an instrument or do schoolwork, like I probably should have done last summer, instead of learning web page design. :) bbc |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: catspaw49 Date: 15 Apr 00 - 02:40 PM Like Bill, I'm sorry to hear that Beebs, but I do understand and can only say again how much I have appreciated all the work that you have put in and how much it has meant to the sense of community here. So what instrument kid? Spaw |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Amos Date: 15 Apr 00 - 02:47 PM Hey, BBC -- Thanks for everything you've done -- it has been a great boost to the community. I really hope you can find someone who will take it over. Please assure us your new adventures in music will still find you over here sharing them with us. A |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: bbc Date: 15 Apr 00 - 02:50 PM I haven't felt successful w/ instruments in the past. Lap dulcimer & autoharp have been suggested. Maybe kazoo is more appropriate. I'm still waiting for my pig shaker from Blessings Barbara. bbc |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: catspaw49 Date: 15 Apr 00 - 03:04 PM Either of those would be good Barb. You can get some fun "instant results" with an autoharp and can take it to entirely different levels later as you want. I can see it adding something to your group too. You seem like kind of an autoharp player to me somehow. Whatever it is, good luck and let us know so we can give you tons of advice you don't need or want!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Bill D Date: 15 Apr 00 - 03:04 PM well, the original site that I started at Fortune City is still there...and they now offer 100mgs of space..but 'unless' you know HTML and ftp and such, it is a royal bitch to update, and Fortune City can be slow at times...so I will be interested to see how it goes. It was sort of fun the couple or 3 months I did it, but I can't predict what the summer will bring...we shall all wait for news.. |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: bbc Date: 15 Apr 00 - 03:19 PM We know sites that offer unlimited free space without advertising--at least that's what David says. bbc |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Bill D Date: 15 Apr 00 - 03:37 PM hey! neat!...I need to hear about them..*grin* |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: GUEST,Hendy Date: 15 Apr 00 - 03:41 PM Where do I find this highly rated site (perhaps before it is too late)? |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 15 Apr 00 - 04:37 PM It's easy. Go back to the top of the threads page and click on the "Quick Links" box, drag down to "BBC's Mudcat Resources" and hit "GO" and you're there. --seed |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 15 Apr 00 - 06:22 PM Thanks bbc for all your hard work. We appreciate all your efforts on our behalf. Good luck with your choice of instrument. Yours, Aye. Dave |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Jon Freeman Date: 15 Apr 00 - 06:29 PM bbc, You don't have to do anything to get on search engines. Try this: http://www.google.com/search?q=bbc+mudcat&lc=www Jon |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Mbo Date: 15 Apr 00 - 06:37 PM bbc--Over the course of the next 3 weeks, I will be learning to create and maintain a website, for my Computer-Aided Art class. I may be able to take over once I learn all the info. You've done an amazing job on running the site so far...I'd like to do my part and take over if what I learn is adequate to keep it up. You guys are worth it! --Mbo |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Little Neophyte Date: 15 Apr 00 - 07:20 PM bbc, you have created a wonderful thing for the Mudcat. Your contribution and dedication will always be remembered. Wishing you all the best good fortune with whatever you plan to do. And sending you many thanks for what you have done. Sincerely, Bonnie
|
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 15 Apr 00 - 07:22 PM bbc - I was going to send you a Personal Message saying "Thanks for providing us with a very important part of the Mudcat".
Then I thought that, if a long thread full of people saying "thank you" might be irritating to some people, a long Personal Message page full of the same messages might be even more irritating to you.
And anyway a public service deserves public recognition. Is there such a thing as "The Freedom of the Mudcat Cafe"?
You deserve it, anyway. |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: bbc Date: 15 Apr 00 - 07:25 PM Jon, I know how to advertise sites. This one was intended as a private resource for Mudcat members (as private as you can be on the Internet!). Even though many of us are not easily identified by our Mudcat names, I didn't want to advertise the email addresses, photos, etc. for the world to see. What's done in the future is up to the new owner. bbc |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: bbc Date: 15 Apr 00 - 07:34 PM McGrath, I don't think thank you's could ever be irritating, but thanks for your consideration. Everyone has been most appreciative; it just seems that it's time to move on. bbc

Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Jon Freeman Date: 15 Apr 00 - 07:35 PM No bbc, I wasn't trying to say that. I was trying to show you that inspite of your efforts, it had still found it's way onto a search engine. I was quite surprised a few weeks ago when I found that one of my pages that was unpublished and not linked to from any other pages that I know of appeared in a search result. Jon |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: bbc Date: 15 Apr 00 - 07:41 PM Sorry about that, Jon. I did misunderstand you. I had no idea. Best laid plans...& all! bbc |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Big Mick Date: 16 Apr 00 - 12:39 AM I have watched this community go through a lot of phases. None has brought more joy and genuine worth than yours, Beebs (CAUTION: UNAUTHORIZED USE OF THIS NAME IN REFERENCE TO BBC WILL RESULT IN UNTOLD HORRORS ON THOSE USING IT WITHOUT PERMISSION OF SAID BBC) and David. I don't give a flying dung chip who dislikes it, I am here to say thanks and double hugs when I see you in October. All the best, Big Mick |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: alison Date: 16 Apr 00 - 04:00 AM Thanks for a job well done bbc....... now come on all you computer buffs... who is game to take it on??? slainte alison |

Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: katlaughing Date: 16 Apr 00 - 10:19 AM Thanks so much, bbc. I understand the moving on bit...who knows what the summer will bring? You have done a wonderful job and I can't say THANK YOU enough times; I love looking through the "Mugs Gallery". Thanks, again, and to David, too! Best of luck to you in all that you do, especially the music end of it! luvyakat |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Áine Date: 16 Apr 00 - 11:02 AM Dear bbc, Thank you and David so much for all your hard work on your pages. I hope that you find happiness in your 'moving on' and remember that you leave several happy folks in your wake! Great good luck to you and David. -- Áine (P.S. There's nothing wrong with playing the kazoo -- did you know that along with 'artistic whistlers', there are actual 'artistic kazoo players' that have agents in Hollywood? Now that would be a career change!) |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: GUEST,moonchild Date: 16 Apr 00 - 11:46 AM bbc ... you and David have done a wonderful job and I know it has taken up a tremendous amount of your "free" time. I would ask, however, that before handing over the site to someone else, you remove all my information from the resources pages. Thanks very much ... moonchild |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Peter T. Date: 16 Apr 00 - 02:20 PM As I have said from the start, beebs, you are a treasure, and the work has been incredible. As has been said already, the site has been of inestimable value to this community. I hope a way can be found to keep it going -- day to day maintenance, as all mothers know, is a mostly unsung virtue. yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Ed Pellow Date: 16 Apr 00 - 06:08 PM I have web space and decent html skills and would be happy to take over the management of the site. Ed |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: folk1234 Date: 17 Apr 00 - 10:21 AM A truly fine job done by two greeat people, bbc and David. Thank you for all you've done. |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 17 Apr 00 - 06:01 PM First time I came across bbc's resources was before I found the Mudcat - I was looking for something to do with the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), on soem search engine or other, and I typed in bbc (lower case), and bingo up it came. |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: MMario Date: 17 Apr 00 - 08:14 PM bbc and david have done a great job. In fact, you'll be a tough act to follow! Maintainence on a dynamic site (and I mean "dynamic" in both the "changing" and the "extraordinary" meanings) is a lot of work! Thanks again to youboth for all the work you've put in. |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Guy Wolff Date: 17 Apr 00 - 09:23 PM Hello Barbara, I just wanted to add my thanks to the pile.. Kazoos are great but have you ever seen thoughs nose-phones things they sell at the music stores?? They are an inspiration to us all (AS are you!!!!) THanks for the great good will, Yours, Guy |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: alison Date: 18 Apr 00 - 10:46 AM good of you to volunteer Ed.. have you dropped bbc a line to let her know that you have offered??.... it would be great to "keep it in the family" rather than let it go out to strangers.... slainte alison |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: GMT Date: 18 Apr 00 - 11:41 AM bbc, I'm kind of new here but have gone to you're page many times just to see who's talking and a bit about them. I'm not there myself but then I'm uglier than most and don't want to break anything ;) Thanks for putting in the effort and sharing it with a newbie Gary |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Rick Fielding Date: 18 Apr 00 - 11:54 AM Due to work constraints, I haven't seen much of Mudcat over the last few days, but boy, this caught my eye. The work that Bbc (and D.&D) has done here is remarkable, and has put a "face" to Mudcat for those who wanted that (me, for one). I can only say "Thank you Barb from the bottom of my heart". Through Mudcat's inevitable (for any community) ups and downs you've represented that extremely important middle ground between a strictly academic site and an increasingly irritating trend towards triviality. There are lots of us here who appreciate your work. Thanks Rick |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Rex Date: 18 Apr 00 - 11:57 AM Yep, instead of names out in cyberland, you've given us faces of real people. Mighty nice work. Rex |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Max Date: 18 Apr 00 - 11:58 AM I would be glad to take over the hosting and maintenance of bbc's resource site. Don't worry, I'll take good care of it. If you not sure if I can do it, check out this little site I run called The Mudcat Cafe... |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: MMario Date: 18 Apr 00 - 12:01 PM pssstttt! Max! part of the point is to reduce your workload..... |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Rick Fielding Date: 18 Apr 00 - 12:10 PM To Hell with reduction Max. You're young, energetic, assertive, and obviously a bear for punishment. You got my vote...anything to keep Catspaw from turning it into a marsupial yearbook! Rick |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: Amos Date: 18 Apr 00 - 12:22 PM Maybe Ed and Max can work out a workload distribution with Ed working up the pages and Max loading and linking them on site... bbc, you've been a doll, I can't echo all the thanks here enough. I say hammered dulcimer. Just seems to match your loverly personality, to me...and Spaw gives free support under certain circumstances... |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: bbc Date: 18 Apr 00 - 12:28 PM Thank you, Max. I'm honored that you feel the resources site has enough value for you to undertake it in addition to what I know is an already heavy schedule. I appreciate the various people who contacted me by thread, personal message, or email & expressed their willingness to continue the site. I think we will agree that, if Max wants to do it, he is the most appropriate choice. I can continue till the end of the school year or transfer it now, Max, whichever you prefer. We'll work out details as to where, how, etc. I've appreciated all the kind feedback & have really enjoyed the personal contacts w/ Mudcatters that the site has given me. my best to you all, Barbara P.S.--Rick, I'll see *you* later! ;) |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: KathWestra Date: 18 Apr 00 - 01:05 PM Adding my voice to the chorus of praise and thanks to "beebs" and David. You're great! You've made the resources page a true resource. And you've done it all for the love of this community. Three cheers and a few huzzahs (and I'll line up behind Mick for thank-you hugs in October!) Kathy P.S. And thank YOU to Max and the other folks who are willing to take this on when bbc "retires"! |
Subject: RE: changes at bbc's site From: GUEST,Okiemockbird Date: 18 Apr 00 - 02:22 PM bbc, I add my bit to the chorus of thanks for your efforts on behalf of our ictalurubanjonic virtual household. T. |
