Subject: RE: Lyr Req: songs with the name ' Madeline' in i From: Joe Offer Date: 16 Apr 00 - 09:15 PM Well, a search of our database for "madel*" came up with MADELINE SCHMIDT (click). Then there's Face Upon the Barroom Floor and Paddlin' Madelin' Home and this unnamed Breton song (click) (also here). |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: sones with the name ' Madiline' in i From: honestfrankie Date: 16 Apr 00 - 11:02 PM A song by Zachary Richard, or done by him at least, called Madeline. I think that spelling is correct. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: sones with the name ' Madiline' in i From: Jacob B Date: 17 Apr 00 - 10:34 AM Don't forget Jacques Brel's song 'Madeleine'. It's part of "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris". |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: sones with the name ' Madiline' in i From: Mbo Date: 17 Apr 00 - 11:03 AM Joe, the "unnamed Breton song" is one I spend a loooong time searching for, but find it I did! It's called "Eh Change-tu" and Talitha MacKenzie does a bang up job on it! Complete with bombarde, funky bass guitar, sheep bells, and bleating! --Mbo |

Subject: Lyr Add: MARIE-MADELEINE A UN PIED MARITON From: simon-pierre Date: 17 Apr 00 - 04:45 PM There's a campfire song that every kids knows (or used to know, before Sega and all that crap...). It's been a very long time since my last summer camp, so here's what all I remember.
Marie-Madeleine a un pied mariton
Marie-Madeleine a une jambe de bois
Marie-Madeleine a un oeil de vitre (... put every verse you want here, making this poor girl very, very ugly, following the same pattern.)
Last verse:
Marie-Madeleine est pas mal maganée... «maganée» is a québécois word that means «scrap» or «wreck». If someone pretends to know what does mean «mariton», he's undoubtly lying! Simon-Pierre. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: sones with the name ' Madiline' in i From: simon-pierre Date: 17 Apr 00 - 05:43 PM I found other verses at http://www.momes.net/comptines/comptines-dire.html#mariton quickly:
une cuisse de velours well, it's enough... poor Marie-Madeleine... SP |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: sones with the name ' Madiline' in i From: Susanne (skw) Date: 17 Apr 00 - 06:15 PM Can't find any of them in the DT, but there are 'The Magdalen's Laundry', 'The Magdalene's Lament' and the 'Magdalen Green' wich is in Dundee. 'Magdalen' is pronounced 'Maudlin', so these songs fit your requirements. - Susanne |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: sones with the name ' Madiline' in i From: Mark Cohen Date: 18 Apr 00 - 05:13 AM Jacques Brel wrote a song, "Madeleine," which was translated into English by Mort Shuman and was included in "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris." I can't remember the words. If I find my Brel songbook I will post the French words, but the recording of the show is probably out on CD. (I have it on record but I am Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: sones with the name ' Madiline' in i From: Mark Cohen Date: 18 Apr 00 - 05:16 AM Oops, that last word was supposed to be "turntable-less." And oops again, sorry, Jacob B, didn't see your post first time through. |
