Subject: Lyr Add: I'VE GOT THESE FLEETWOOD MAC ... BLUES
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 18 Nov 10 - 01:22 PM

You can hear the whole song—in face, the whole album, I think—at the We7.com. Here's my transcription (this was fun!):

I'VE GOT THESE FLEETWOOD MAC CHICKEN SHACK JOHN MAYALL CAN'T FAIL BLUES
As performed by The Liverpool Scene

Woke up this mornin' and my agent was standin' in my room.
Oh yeah, I woke up this mornin' and my agent and a man from Blue Horizon Records, and Mike and Richard Vernon was standin' in my room, yes they were.
Oh, they said, "You better learn some blues, son, 'cause there's gonna be a boom, a great big boom, daddy!"

I got the Fleetwood-Mac, chicken-shack, John-Mayall, can't-fail blues.
I got the Fleetwood-Mac, chicken-shack, John-Mayall, can't-fail blues, yeah.
I got the Fleetwood-Mac, chicken-shack, John-Mayall, can't-fail blues.

From the deep, deep south of the river Thames,
Bottleneck guitar is the latest trend.
I'm gonna earn more money than I can spend.
I got the blues.
I got the blues, the Fleetwood-Mac, chicken-shack blues.
I got the Fleetwood-Mac, chicken-shack, John-Mayall, can't-fail blues.

I got the Jethro-Tull, bellyful, Savoy-Brown, reach-me-down blues.
I got the Jethro-Tull, bellyful, Savoy-Brown, reach-me-down blues.
I got the Jethro-Tull, bellyful, Savoy-Brown, reach-me-down blues, yeah.

I'm gonna pick that cotton an' do my thing.
Don't know the chords and I just can't sing,
But there's lots of noise and the drums don't swing.
I got the blues.
I got the blues, the Jethro-Tull, bellyful blues.
I got the Fleetwood-Mac, chicken-shack, John-Mayall, can't-fail blues, yeah.

Got money by the spoonful.
Got money by the handful.
Got money by the roomful.
Got money by the bank – full.
I'm with Blue Horizon Records. Ev'rything is gonna be all right.

SOUND of sparse applause.

SOUND EFFECT of something like wooden folding chairs being folded and stacked, continues throughout the following speech:

SPOKEN: I'm afraid I'm gonna have to ask you to hurry out of the hall now, sir, please. I'm afraid— Hurry up, sir, because it's eleven o'clock, and this hall is supposed to be closed at ten-thirty. I'm afraid— I mean, there's no need to take that attitude, sir, and I'm only doing my job. I've been here since eight o'clock this morning, and I shall miss my last bus home if you don't hurry up. I'm afraid— You're being offensive, sir, and I shall have to report this to the manager. [Another voice says something unintelligible, ending with "git."] I fought in the War for the likes of you, and I'm not gonna have....

[Note: "Mayall" is here pronounced to rhyme with "fail."]

The newish double-disc anthology/compilation The Amazing Adventures Of is on the Esoteric label, ECLEC22138. It contains most of the true best of the Liverpool Scene.
That priceless Blues track was also part of the CD reissue of the Liverpool Scene's Bread On The Night LP on the BGO label a few years ago, but I think that set's now deleted.

All too brief but still excellent color footage of Green and Fleetwood Mac doing Rattlesnake Shake on Hefner's late night show.

I have just remembered another of their songs. It was a spoof dance craze song called, (Let's Do) 'The Woo Woo'.

My wife has just informed me that she was once asked to sing with the group! All these dark secrets come out eventually.

Yes, Lonesome EJ, definitely the self-same man, definitely Portsmouth and I'm 99% certain about 28 May. And thanks to The Shambles, and thanks to Phil Cooper - the more of the lyrics I see the more I will have to track down the original.

Yes,I too, have a copy of Liverpool scene. The words as I recall are: I got the fleetwood mac chicken shack john mayall can't fail blues, 3x.

From the deep, deep south of the river thames, bottleneck guitar is the latest trend, Gonna earn more money than I can spend, I got the blues... (fleetwood mac, etc.)

I got the savoy brown reeks me down, Jethro tull bellyfull blues, 3x.

(another bridge that I can't recall)

ends with: Got money by the spoonful, got money by the bagfull, I got the blues.

Oh yeah, and it started with the lines: Woke up this morning and my agent was standing in my room, Woke up this morning and my agent and a man from Blue horizon records was standing in my room, He said you got to play the blues son, because there's gonna be a boom.

Sorry, I don't recall the middle bridge. All the best,

Yes it was a song written during the British Blues Boom of the late 60s. It was by a group called 'The Liverpool Scene', featuring the poet, Adrian Henri(y). I think it may have also been written by him.

I have not got it written down anywhwere, but I will try to bring some more of it from my head. If the whole thing does not appear here shortly.

'Got the Savoy Brown ---- ------ hand me down blues'.

'Got the Jethro Tull ------- ------ belly roll blues'.

Is all I have at the moment.

Anyone know a song which includes this line: I've got the Fleetwood Mac Chicken Shack John Mayall can't fail blues." Or maybe Chicken Shack & Fleetwood Mac are the other way round.

John Mayall and Pete Green are at the Royal Albert Hall on I think 2 June and in Portsmouth a few nights earlier (28 May). Are they doing any other dates/venues?
