I'm headed for a fishin trip with friends and would like a couple fun songs about fishin for around the camp fire. One simple song I do now is 'Fishin Blues' (Taj Mahal-ish, with a poor imitation of his great bass). Any help with something along that line would be appreciated......

John Prine (I think) has a song called Whistle and Fish. Nice and catchy tune.

"Swim said the momma fishy swim if you can
And they swam swam swam right over the damn"

Eddystone Light?

John, I have to ask: Is Dagney Taggert going with you? And Hank Reardon? Who is John Galt?

Hmm...

I do a lot of fishin', perhaps I'll write one.

How come most of 'em seem to be about catfish and crawdads?

Dagney's with Hank? You two break up? That's a surprise. I always thought she'd go back to 'Frisco. Have you given up the cigarettes too? $$$$$

Subject: Lyr Add: IMPORTANT PART OF FISHIN' (from M Cross)
From: BlueJay
Date: 27 Apr 00 - 01:22 PM

Mary in Kentucky-Thanks and a tip of the hat for the tip on the thread! I especially enjoyed some of 'Spaw's suggestions, such as "That's A Moray". Ha! I heard Mike Cross do a hilarious fishing song. Since he didn't say the name, I've titled it:

THE IMPORTANT PART OF FISHIN'
Writer unknown, maybe Mike Cross

The important part of fishin's not the fish but the fishin'
The important part of lovin' is the love,
The important part of doin' anything that you're doin',
Is doin' it with all of your heart.

'Cause if the fish don't bite, well you still got the water,
And the trees and the sky above,
And if your lover's not with you, well you can still be thinkin' of her,
And sometimes just the memory is enough.

(Repeat the first section, which is the CHORUS)

And if the fish don't bite, well you get some time for thinkin',
And your lover's who you're thinkin' about,
And if your lover's not with you, well you get some time for thinkin'
It's amazing how it all works out.

CHORUS

And if the fish don't bite, well you get some casting practice,
And you catch a lot of nothin' with style,
And if your lover's not with you, you can still go through the motions,
It don't hurt you every once in a while.

CHORUS
Oh, do it, do it with all of your heart

Hi John,

I put together these links yesterday and then forgot which thread mentioned sheet music. I just happened to read your question today. There was a good thread back in March, click here, which discussed sheet music online. Bill D. posted this link to Free Sheet Music.

Here's one of the best: The Lester S. Levy Sheet Music Collection

There's also a similar collection at Duke University: Historic American Sheet Music

I believe I've seen similar collections at colleges in Tennessee and Texas.

Here are more links (bottom of page.) Free Music Links

You might also be interested in this thread titled Music to Midi Programme which talks about how to convert a midi to sheet music. I've done several just to have the music, but never really seem to use them. I guess nothing can really replace having a nice music book!

Subject: Lyr Add: THE IMPORTANT PART OF FISHIN' (Tim Bays)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 12 Sep 02 - 01:34 PM

Regarding THE IMPORTANT PART OF FISHIN' which BlueJay posted above... I found the lyrics at the author's website, and there are some significant differences from the version BlueJay posted. I have marked the differences with Italics:

Copied from http://www.timbays.com/cds.htm#fishin

THE IMPORTANT PART OF FISHIN'
(Tim Bays, © 1990 In Cahoots Music (ASCAP))

CHORUS: The important part of fishin' ain't the fish but the fishin'.
The important part of lovin' is the love.
The important part of doin' 'most anything you're doin'
Is doin' it with all of your heart.

If the fish don't bite, you still got the water
And the trees and the sky above,
And if your lover's not with you, don't be sad that you miss her.
Be glad you miss someone so much.
CHORUS

If the fish don't bite, you get some time for thinkin',
And your lover's who you're thinking about.
And if your lover's not with you, you get some time for fishin'.
It's amazing how it all works out. CHORUS

If the fish don't bite, it really doesn't matter.
They're just bigger the next time you go.
And if your lover's not with you, just make it so much sweeter
When she finally do come home.
CHORUS

TAG: Do it now with all of your heart.
Do it now with all of your heart.

[Sung by Tim Bays on his album "Everyday Magic"; and by Jim Hurst & Missy Raines on their album "Two," Pinecastle CD 1102, 2000.]
