Subject: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: katlaughing Date: 29 Apr 00 - 01:23 AM One year ago, today, Big Mick posted a thread entitled "About Catspaw - Please read." We learned he had been life-flighted to the hospital the day before for a very unexpected dissecting aneurysm. We posted to that thread, we waited for each update, we prayed, we cried, we visualised, probably some of us chanted, some lit candles, incense, and who knows what else; I know most of us sang or played an instrument.(I am sure that whole hospital must've lit up like a Christmas tree and been tingling with the bombardment of our thoughts and prayers.*BG*) Our own hearts triphammered when opening the threads page to see what the latest news would bring. It was a defining moment for Mudcatters; we pulled together and proved just what an incredible community we really are. We went through everyday, learning to know his family: Karen, so brave, who took the time from the very scary reality they were surrounded in, to thank us all and let us know how he was doing; his mom-in-law, Karen's sister; and, not least, Karen and Pat's best frineds, Connie and Wayne, who really jumped in and kept us up on things, as well as helped Karen and Pat out with the kids, pets, and all of those ordinary daily things that refuse to go away in the face of life and death events. And, always the steadfast Big Mick, official Mudcat laison, was there relaying the news, calling those of us who were so torn up; listening to us cry at the fear of loss. We had the About Catspaw I, II, & III; Recovery I, II, & III; the Relaspe; the Donate Blood; Donations for; and, finally, the Homecoming threads! We sent cards, letters, tapes and CD's; we longed for the voices of Cletus, the Reg boys, and, really our dear Spaw. It took almost a month, but he finally did come back to us. Here it is a year later and he likes to joke that he turned one year old, on Friday, having been brought back to life on that day. This year, he spent four hours working in the yard. I would like to give thanks that our Spaw IS still here with us and ask that he be here for many more "rebirth-days" to come. And, thanks to Karen for sharing him so selflessly with us. I have come to know them in a deep and meaningful way and am proud to consider them some of my very "bestest" friends. Who knew? Karen, Pat, Mikey, and Tris, love you and my heart is filled with the joy of knowing you and having you here with us in good repair! luvyakat |
Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: Rick Fielding Date: 29 Apr 00 - 01:30 AM Well I'm not going to make any jokes in THIS thread, 'cause I love the guy, and I'm damn glad he's gonna be with us for a while. Really didn't want to have to go down to Ohio for your funeral Pat...but I wouldda.* Rick *sorry about joke. Can't help myself. |
Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: katlaughing Date: 29 Apr 00 - 01:33 AM It's okay, Rick, it needs a little levity to really be about Spaw, I just couldn't find a spot for it and I wanted to mention the plans we all made to go there for a'plantin', but it seemed ghoulish!**BG** luvyakat |
Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: alison Date: 29 Apr 00 - 01:35 AM It seems so much longer than one year ago, those were a scarey few weeks.... and we all cried and prayed a lot... glad you're still here 'spaw.... love alison |
Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: wysiwyg Date: 29 Apr 00 - 01:38 AM This will probably make Spaw nuts, but I for one would buy the Book of Spaw Threads that have all that kat listed. The little of them I have read was powerful stuff. This is because Catspaw is himself a powerful person. He evokes such tremendous love and fellowship and then doesn't quite get why. And partly that is precisely why. What I most appreciate about him is that it just isn't possible, if you have any shred or realness yourself, to bullshit him. Only what is true will do. None of this says half of what I feel or says it close to halfway well. But I thank God for each moment this world has gotten, and gets, with this man. And I pray that he sees that this world--sometimes such a hard place for a heart like his to be in-- is a much better world as a result of his being in it. ~Susan~

Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: Billy the Bus Date: 29 Apr 00 - 02:22 AM kat - I've jsut come back from fairyland - 5 hours on Hearme - I could hear most of it (rather garbled). I had a wonderful time, meeting some wonderful folk. But, alas, kat/spaw (my two favouritest MCrs) never arrived. Spaw told me about the event in a "personal". I never bothered checking the thread(s) - and won't - no need to read what one knows in one's heart about Mudcatters. Thanks for giving me the date, kat, wee tart. I'm worried about next year though - looks like a concentrated week, with Anzac Day, Birthday, Spawday, and May Day to "celebrate" - each a day apart. Mayday, Mayday.. Kat/Spaw - y'both missed my inauguration to "Hearme" - well, no you didn't - I didn't have a mic. Maybe, on Mayday I'll be set up to join in "live"... From the Heart of my Bottom, whoops, Bottom of my Heart, all I can say kat/spaw, is.... G'day

Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: Escamillo Date: 29 Apr 00 - 04:51 AM I was not here when that happened, but I have learnt to appreciate who this gentleman is. Surely, love from family and friends and all people who knows him, has helped him. I wish I have a fraction of that support the day I need it. Un abrazo for Spaw - Andrés |
Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: Banjer Date: 29 Apr 00 - 07:42 AM The 'Cat without 'Spaw??? Unthinkable...how could we exist without our favorite (and so far only) possum puffin' prevert? Happy Re-birthday and hope for many more. |
Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: Little Neophyte Date: 29 Apr 00 - 08:29 AM Kat, thank you so much for creating such an important Thought For The Day. To celebrate the joy of frienship with Catspaw, I am going to plant a rose bush for you today Pat and I will call it Catspaw. Just in case you want to visit your rose bush, I will tell you exactly where it is...........in Rick Fielding's backyard. You won't be able to miss it. It will be the one with the most beautiful flowers that seem to always be in blooming. Lots of love, Bonnie

Sheesh! HOW did I miss that!? Sure is fun to read everyone's notes. Thanks ya'll, katlaughing |
Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: Helen Date: 29 Apr 00 - 09:10 AM I just like having a giggle at how 'Spaw turned from being a hard-ass/smart-ass into a sweet lovable guy, whether he wanted to or not. He didn't have any hope at all of dodging all that love & light & prayer and incense & candles. Kinda hard to keep up the smart-ass act when everyone around you on the 'Cat is telling you how much they love you, eh 'Spaw?? GOL (giggle out loud) I love you too Helen |
Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: Peter T. Date: 29 Apr 00 - 09:29 AM It is a pretty dark thought, but if people thought more about how their lives would have been lessened by the absence of someone over the last year, or years, who is still happily around, there would be a lot more gratitude and love sloshing around in the world. On to 2050 CP!! yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: Jeri Date: 29 Apr 00 - 10:19 AM Spaw, this place wouldn't be the same without you. I enjoy the smartass posts, but also enjoy the incredible insight you have into many issues, and the way you can make words sing when you want to. Intellect tempered with humor...or maybe the other way around. Love, Jeri. Just to embarrass Spaw, here's the whole story in links:

Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: Jeri Date: 29 Apr 00 - 10:43 AM Rick, I had started collecting interesting threads a while ago and putting them into tables. I just copied and pasted the Catspaw stuff into a separate one. You start by typing...nah - it's magic. (E-mail me for a private lesson on tables if you really want to know.) Alison, thanks. I saw you posted the first link, but I had the whole mess o' them handy, so... Roses are appropriate for Spaw - blossoms and thorns. It will probably succeed in growing out of control. |
Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: catspaw49 Date: 29 Apr 00 - 11:31 AM Well........(and I am)..........It is hard to respond to all the thoughts on this thread because words are inadequate to express what you all and this place mean to me. I will be forever grateful for the love that came from this little village then...and always. Thank you all for the spirit of the 'Cat. I am completely overwhelmed once again. I'll try to send a few notes later. The yard is calling again......I hate yard work.......I'm really happy I have a chance to do some. Spaw |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day-4-29-00-for SPAW From: Lonesome EJ Date: 29 Apr 00 - 02:03 PM Spaw, what can I say. One year ago you were barely clicking, this year you are reaching new levels, or plumbing greater depths, of inspired strangeness. What relief we all felt when you recovered from your bout with the Reaper. I still remember how Katlaf was suggesting that we "visualize healing" and "hold you in the light." I remember my healing visualization was you and Death playing one-on-one basketball. He dominated under the basket, but couldn't do anything to stop those jumpshots you kept hitting from the perimeter. You took the bastard down at the buzzer. I just want you to know that, had you lost, I was quite ready to place you in a Viking Longboat, and fire flaming arrows at you as the Ohio carried you down towards Louisville. LEJ |
