Thanks, Martin. I hope you don't mind my copying it here. I listened to the recording and made a few adjustments:

GOLD AND SILVER DAYS
Written by Phil Coulter
As sung by Philomena Begley

1. As I'm sitting by the firelight,
And turning back the years,
I can hear my mother singing in the morning
As she scrubbed our shining faces
And then packed us off to school.
All too soon those days were over with out warning.

CHORUS: So sing me the songs of our gold and silver days,
Days filled with innocence and light.
Not a penny to our name,
We were happy just the same
In our gold and silver days.

2. In the parlour on a Friday night,
My father took the floor.
I can hear us join together in the chorus,
Singing "Just a Song at Twilight"
And "The Moon behind the Hill".
Now those voices they are silent, gone before us.

3. We gathered at the Daisy Field
On Sunday afternoon,
And we danced to Johnny Quigley and the Royal.
Through the years we all were scattered,
But those friends were good and true,
Always there when they were needed, always loyal

WITH CHORDS:

1. [D] As I'm sitting [A] by the [D] firelight,
And turning [A] back the [D] years,
I can [G] hear my mother [D] singing in the morn- [A] ing
As she [D] scrubbed our [A] shining [D] faces
And then packed us [A] off to [D] school.
All too [G] soon those days were [D] over with [A] out warn- [D] ing.

CHORUS: So [D] sing me the songs of our [G] gold and silver [D] days,
Days filled with innocence and [A] light.
Not a [D] penny to our name,
We were [G] happy just the [D] same
In our gold and [G] silver [D] days.

Refreshing an old thread here.

Allmusic.com says that Paddy Reilly recorded a song called GOLD AND SILVER DAYS. It's on the album "Best of Paddy Reilly." It doesn't give an authorship credit or a sound sample.
