Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: Caitrin Date: 02 May 00 - 09:48 PM I'm just refreshing this, since I can't seem to remember how to do a link. |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: Mbo Date: 02 May 00 - 07:29 PM Ah, Caitrin you should here them say the same thing when I let loose my Philly accent. I pronounce "alto" "all-to", not "owl-to" and that sets 'em right off! Hey, Spider Tom thought I had an Italian accent! Italian heritage yes, but don't speak the language! I just sing it... --Mbo |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: Caitrin Date: 02 May 00 - 04:11 PM Jon, you can argue your lack of accent all you like, but I still like to listen to you talk! :) I've always claimed that I don't really have an accent. My cousins from Cleveland, OH, swear that I sound southern. People here say things like "You ain't from 'round here, are ya?" to me. I just can't win. |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: wysiwyg Date: 01 May 00 - 11:12 PM Use the link in this thread if the link in the HearMe NOW!!! thread does not work for you. We are in there now. |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: Jon Freeman Date: 01 May 00 - 09:44 PM Accent? I haven't got one - it's you damn Americans and even Irish Australians with those things! where you from Dave? Was it Rochdale? I'm from Shropshire originally though i have lived in Wales for most of my life. BTW, it was the maroons last night - somebody in a small boat neve came home - haens every year here. Caitrin, loved your rendition of "Summer Time" Llanfair, thnks for the Welsh support - even though neither of us "sairad cymraeg" I could record hearme but I think that would be against the spirit of the thing. Having said that, Don has given me permission to record that lovely tune he plays on the autoharp and I will get that next time he joins us. Jon |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 01 May 00 - 09:08 PM Mary anytime you would like me to repeat a song just ask, I would be delighted to sing it for you. Caitrin requested Over The Hills and Far Away last night. Yours, Aye. Dave |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 01 May 00 - 08:47 PM I'm not whining...but...I always seem to come into a session late, or leave a little early, and miss something I really regret not hearing when I read about it the next day.
For instance: ...and the list goes on. So could we have a request night for encores (reruns)? Jon really does a good job of keeping things moving and would be a great organizer of such a production. Mary (who is really not whining) |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: katlaughing Date: 01 May 00 - 08:40 PM WW, the DT lists Mike Burton as author of Nightrider's Lament>. I'd be interested in where you heard the tune; there were slight and interesting variations in it compared to the way I learned it from Art Thieme's CD. It was a great session. BtheB..hope you tracked down a mic! |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: Midchuck Date: 01 May 00 - 08:29 PM The writer is an old friend, even though he's become a politician, and a liberal Democrat at that. I suppose 25 years of ski bar gigs can destroy the brain. I would prefer to get his permission before posting the lyrics to a site like this. I have no doubt it will be forthcoming, that sort of thing appeals to his ego, but I still feel I should ask. He's hard to get in touch with while the legislature is in session. As soon as I can, I'll do so. For another of his songs, I think Voices in the Hills is on the DT. But it's quite a different song. Peter. |

Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: Sourdough Date: 01 May 00 - 08:06 PM WOuld it be possible to get the lyrics and chords if not the melody of "I was Only Drinking Beer"? If Midchuck would perform it again, I would be able to get the melody memorized, I think. It is a lot of fun, that song, and deserves to be widely heard. Sourdough |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: Caitrin Date: 01 May 00 - 07:44 PM HearMe was awesome last night. Dave(tam) did Over the Hills and Far Away for me, and it was gorgeous! I sang "Feel So Near" and "Everything is Broken" (my first time trying blues on Hearme). I sang "Summertime" on the request of Jon Freeman (Thanks to Mbo and Mary in KY for the words!), and I think it was my best performance ever. That session rocked! |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: SINSULL Date: 01 May 00 - 04:32 PM Four Green Fields, Jon and very nicely. |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: Jon Freeman Date: 01 May 00 - 04:00 PM What are these rules? Do I get the dollars? - if so, keep it up ;-) WW, - wondered what happenend to you but you sounded great when you were there. I can't remember all of what I tried last night but I managed Sammy's Bar. Jon |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: SINSULL Date: 01 May 00 - 03:45 PM the expectation of symapathy is less, and more gratifying. All right, Mario. We are all really sorry you missed the best Hearme ever. We missed you, too. A credit has been issued for $10 to your Whining Account. But consider yourself on probation. |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: WyoWoman Date: 01 May 00 - 03:34 PM I also got unceremoniously dumped off. Do you think it has something to do with yodeling? I sang "Girl on the Rim of the World," by Malvina Reynolds, and "NightRider's Lament," by ???? (Is it Townes Van Zandt?) As I said last night, I actually DO know songs that have nothing to do with cowboys or yodeling. It was fun while it lasted. Ta-ra, all, WW |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: MMario Date: 01 May 00 - 03:06 PM Sinsull, I'm whimpering, not whining. The element of self-pity is deeper yet more mellow; the expectation of symapathy is less, and more gratifying. |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: catspaw49 Date: 01 May 00 - 02:58 PM Sorry I didn't get to hear more last night, but my server had an equipment problem that made for problems. I also had a bit of a problem getting in and I noticed then and now that I wasn't alone on that. Great time in the little I was there!!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: SINSULL Date: 01 May 00 - 02:47 PM Mario, We instated a new rule last night - $5 fine for whining! At last count, you owe $10. |

Subject: RE: Hearme 4/30/00 Tonight! From: Midchuck Date: 01 May 00 - 09:35 AM I was sort of sleeeeeepyy...Happens on Sunday night, when you get the first good weekend to do yard work, and you fire up the chainsaw... Lessee..I did: Only Drinking Beer - written by Dick McCormack, T. F. S. (The Senator) for the Panther Players, a Vermont Public Radio comedy co-op, as a satire on commercial country music, based on the old country myth that beer doesn't count as drinking at all. We did it once in the Stagecoach Bar in Wilson, WY., and the mixture of cowboys and retired-millionaires-pretending-to-be-cowboys that were in the audience didn't think of it as satire atall. They were two-stepping with singular enthusiasm. Say Goodbye to Montana - written by Alex Harvey/Tim Roullier, obviously under the influence of "Lonesome Dove." Appears on the Don Edwards/Waddie Mitchell CD, "The Bard and the Balladeer - Live from Cowtown." Hopefully, soon, I can get my wife persuaded that I really haven't gone nuts to be singing and playing guitar to my computer in the middle of the night, and we can get some harmony and phiddle in here. Peter. |
