Subject: Washington, D.C. folk events/venues next From: GUEST,Dan Evergreen Date: 30 Apr 00 - 07:19 PM I will be in Washington from the end of the week through the weekend and would love to find some Irish pubs, folk venues, etc. Please advise. I can't wait! |
Subject: RE: Washington, D.C. folk events/venues next From: bbelle Date: 30 Apr 00 - 08:38 PM Dan ... Hopefully someone from the FSGW (Folklore Society of Greater Washington) will see this thread and respond. They would be the ones to know what's going on in D.C. My suggest would be to refresh your thread occasionally so it doesn't get pushed off the screen ... moonchild |

Subject: RE: Washington, D.C. folk events/venues next From: Bill D Date: 30 Apr 00 - 11:57 PM I'll look thru the newsletter that just came....there are LOTS of things every week .(There are several Irish bars..etc...)..too late tonight..(hmmm..perhaps a scan of a couple pages!...just got a new scanner!) If you head to House of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park, you can get LOTS of info on local venues... |

It has a pretty complete list of clubs, including a special section for Irish music. The March 17 "Weekend" section of the Washington Post had a feature on Irish bars in the D.C. area that have live music. Many of them are accessible by Metro (subway). They do archive those past features under something called "GuidePOST" on their website, click here so you might want to search for it. |
Subject: RE: Washington, D.C. folk events/venues next From: GUEST,Rob-O Date: 01 May 00 - 11:42 AM I was in DC a couple of weeks back and spent a highly enjoyable evening at Ireland's Four Provinces, over near Georgetown. Great music and corned beef! -- Rob-O |
Subject: RE: Washington, D.C. folk events/venues next From: Wincing Devil Date: 01 May 00 - 11:46 AM This Tuesday, 5/2 at 8:00 pm the Royal Mile Pub in Wheaton, MD will host yet another sea shanty sing and all-around good time.
2407 Price Avenue
No cover, no minimum, no admission.
If you want to be SURE to get a seat I advise you get there no later than 7:45 PM. Things get very "iffey" after that and much later means you'll have something of a wait. The Royal Mile Pub DOES NOT take reservations. A good time is guarenteed to all!

Subject: RE: Washington, D.C. folk events/venues next From: GUEST,Cara Date: 01 May 00 - 05:19 PM Ireland's Four Provinces (4P's) is near the Cleveland Park Metro station, not really near Georgetown. If you're around on a Monday, check out the weekly session at Nanny O'Brien's, convenientky located just across the street from 4P's. For my money (a considerable amount of which has been spent in the various Irish pubs of this fine city) Nanny's is the best pub in the area and the music is always excellent. Best pint of Guinness, as well. |
