Subject: Hear Me Questions From: BlueJay Date: 01 May 00 - 01:25 PM OK, I have to profess my ignorance here. I've tried a search, and mostly get answers from the last century, (remember the 1900's?). I just have some insecurities here, so I decided to post a thread, hoping you folks could help. I have seen how to get to HearMe, and gone part way through. But I stop when I get to the "Hold microphone button down" part, as I don't have a microphone. Now I am not a total moron: I realize you would need a mike to be two-way. But I was just hoping to listen in at that point. Another concern: In some of the older threads, there seems to be a tendency for HearMe to make your hard drive crash, and that the program takes up a lot of room. So to my specific questions: 1. Can I listen without a microphone, until I get one? 2. As to microphones, any recommendations? All I have here is WalMart, which sells a cheap one. Would that be adequate? 3. My system is limited: 3.2 GB hard drive, with 32 RAM. Running at 233 whateverithz. Is this adequate? The hard drive's about half full. 4. Is there a more recent, >year 1999, link which solves the crashing problems? It all sounds like so much fun, I'd love to join in!. I tried to find this out on my own, but remember, my name is Jay, not Joe, and decided to ask. Thank you in advance, I prostate myself before all who answer! Love, BlueJay |

Subject: RE: Help: Hear Me Questions From: JenEllen Date: 01 May 00 - 01:42 PM Okay Darlin Jay, help you out with what I can.... 1. Yes, listen away, and there is also a text box so that you can communicate in chat without a mic. 2. Walmart mics are fine. You shouldn't have to spend more than $10 on one, and it's more than adequate. 3-4. Your system aounds fine, and from what I've experienced myself, it's not so much the crashing as it is getting booted out from time to time. Just be patient. Some days you are the pigeon, some days you are the statue. Good luck, and can't wait to hear you too. ~Elle |

Subject: RE: Help: Hear Me Questions From: MMario Date: 01 May 00 - 01:51 PM bluejay - the program takes up next to no room on your hard drive, a microphone is not needed. There is a text chat included and may people without microphones are in there each session enjoying the sounds. |

Subject: RE: Help: Hear Me Questions From: Jon Freeman Date: 01 May 00 - 04:07 PM BlueJay,I have only just ugraded to a 500 from a P133. You don't need anything fancy for hearme and your proposed setup will be fine. Jon (wishing hearme will get their act together and make it accessible for Mac users as well) |

Subject: RE: Help: Hear Me Questions From: The Shambles Date: 21 Oct 00 - 05:25 AM I have looked in and tried Hear Me but I did have a small problem, other than the technical ones. Am I the only one?I would wecome your thoughts. Whilst someone was singing, I found it a little uncomfortable that it appeared to be OK to continue (text) chatting. Seems too much to me, like talking during a performance. Is it just me? |

Subject: RE: Help: Hear Me Questions From: Giac Date: 21 Oct 00 - 09:23 AM I used to have no problems listening and chatting on HearMe. Then, during a concert, the sound became intermittent, so I heard sound, no sound, sound, no sound, constantly. Then I would get booted out. I was having system problems and attributed the problem to that. However, I now have a different system and a different ISP. The same thing happens. Any clues? Thanks |
