Subject: April 2000 DT Download From: John in Brisbane Date: 01 May 00 - 09:09 PM It's that time of year again when I look forward to the latest version of the Digital Tradition becoming available for download. I'm sure that the elves have been working very hard! May I ask please when I can toast the arrival of the new bairn? Regards, John |
Subject: RE: April 2000 DT Download From: Joe Offer Date: 02 May 00 - 01:22 AM Well, John, I've been told Dick & Susan are not accepting any more songs for April. New submissions will go in the October edition. I've got a stockpile for October already - I'm waiting for Alan of Oz to finish the Penguin songbook, for Stewie's train song tunes to be transcribed by Alison, and for Conrad to give more information on the songs he's submitted. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: April 2000 DT Download From: Ana Date: 02 May 00 - 03:57 AM My mac couldn't accept the last download - gave me lyrics but sadly wouldn't install sound (snotty snivel). Do you think I'll have better luck this round? Thanks for all your work!!! Ana |
Subject: RE: April 2000 DT Download From: Joe Offer Date: 02 May 00 - 04:36 AM I think there's an improbved Mac version coming, Ana. What's your OS number (the version number of your Operating System)? -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: April 2000 DT Download From: Ana Date: 03 May 00 - 04:43 AM Hi Joe, my OS is 8.5.1 - not bad, but not as good as some! Any suggestions/guidance gratefully accepted. Regards ana |
Subject: RE: April 2000 DT Download From: Joe Offer Date: 03 May 00 - 07:59 PM Hi, Ana - the current Mac version of the database has been "tested on a Macintosh Plus running System 6.0.8 and a Power Macintosh 7100 running System 7.5.3, so it ought to run on anything in between." As you can see, you are quite a bit beyond that, which is why you may have trouble runing the database. I understand there is a newer version that will solve that problem, but I don't know if it will be out soon, or not-so-soon. Bugs have a way of not being resolved by set deadlines, and only people like Bill Gates can get away with releasing buggy software...<grin> Our database has always been a very stable piece of software, able to work on a wide variety of computers and operating systems. The head honchos in charge of the database, Dick and Susan, have always taken great pride in the quality of their work. You can be sure they won't release something until it's really good. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: April 2000 DT Download From: Ana Date: 04 May 00 - 01:48 AM Thanks Joe - my old system did handle the DT, it gives me delerium tremors just thinking about those old days... what instrument do I want to hear this melody in..shall I slow it down..what was that note again...? I think it's time I took up drinking. Thanks again Ana |
Subject: RE: April 2000 DT Download From: Gervase Date: 04 May 00 - 06:40 PM I haven't been able to run the DT on my Mac since upgrading to system 8.5. I don't know if it's the OS or the version of QuickTime installed, but the bloody thing quits as soon as it starts - which means I have to resort to PC to look anything up. And I like my Mac (Please, I'm sensitive, so no Mac v PC flame wars!). |
Subject: RE: April 2000 DT Download From: Joe Offer Date: 04 May 00 - 08:45 PM One of the better-kept secrets around here is the Mac version of the database. I've never seen it myself, since it works only on Macs with OS 6 & 7, but I've heard it is supposed to be one heck of a wonderful program. In her message above, Ana hints at the features of this program. I guess we Windows people haven't got much to boast about. And since I upgraded to a Pentium III with Windows 98, Second Edition, I've been ready to switch to a Mac! -Joe Offer, here in Crash City- |
Subject: RE: April 2000 DT Download From: Gervase Date: 05 May 00 - 07:45 AM Having used both Windows and Mac version, I'd opt for the Mac any day - very elegant interface, luvverly sheet music and excellent tune-play through Quick-Time. Yu can even pick your instrument, though some songs played on a synth do sound weird. |
