Yep, it's just the tavern. No ships of the space or steam variety. No funky time periods, no crazy plots, just a nice old tavern in which to eat, drink, and be merry. Wine, women, and song, but absolutely no aliens or alternate dimensions.
(I just feel the need for some good old fashioned conversation.)

THANK YOU!

FWIW - the fourth verse I sang to "Morning glory" the other night...

Now sixteen years have come and gone
I'm the landlord at the Inn
My daughters take the food around
While their brother pours the gin
Don't you touch the waitress, boys
Don't even think it lad!
Or else you'' see what happens
when you make four mothers mad!
singing...

One for the Morning Glory
Two for the early dew
Three for the man who'll stand a round
And four for the love of you, me gal! four for the love of you!

I like the song, MMario. I don't think I was there when you sung that one.

strange - I didn't realize before how few times I have had the same people listening to me. YOu have to expand your repetoire when people actually hear you more then once!!

Save me a spot under a table with pals standing watch, I'll be there later. Mix me a pitcher of Rusty Nails-- half Drambuie, half Glenfyddich, NO ICE!!!-- and let it steep till I arrive. And Mmario, can you wrestle a recliner in from storage, or three? I'm fixin' ta get comfy. Pipe smokers, come on by and set a spell, I'll be the large drowsy laughing lady wearing the Shalimar, with her hair all fluffed out. Perhaps in flannel jammies with a sheepskin to snuggle. Lap available, friends, if we trade!

~Susan~

Bless you Caitrin!

I can smoke a pipe in here? Honest? Truly? May ASCAP sue me and Harry Fox license my every word! WOBH! I'll drag in a dozen recliners! TWO dozen! You want those with or without the vibrators? (Excuse me, yes, I know they are "electric massage units....geesh...) and I will stand right here next to the high velocity exhaust fan so it will contaminate as little air volume as possible...

How about a nice handmade comforter to go there, too?

Hey hey the gangs all here! Yo everyone! Got my guitar! Mario, I think what you mean to sing was:

All your dreams are made
When you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade
Today's the day that all the world will see
Another sunny afternoon
Walking down the street to my favorite tune
Tomorrow never knows what it doesn't know to soon
Ye need a little time to wake up
Need a little time to wake up wake up
You need a little time to rest your mind
You know you should so I guess you might as well
HEY! What's the story, Morning glory?
Well....ye need a little time to wake up wake up
Well....what's the story, Morning glory?
Well....ye need a little time to wake up wake up!!!!

If I may, a quart of brown stout to fill me giant Mudcat mug with the leaping catsih and the gold-emblazoned letters on the front.

And one short toast, if I may:

to wonderful comrades, the best in any spaceport or timepocket I have ever visited -- your eternal wellbeing!

Fondly,

Arguments, expectations, expositions, NO!!!!!!!!

(Settling back amid a cloud of Mmario's finest....)

Thanks, Mmario, I believe I will light right up. Hey guess what? I sang yer song today! Yep!! A friend of mine is havin' a tuff time with her old man, keepin' him home nights if ya know what I mean. And the best way she's figgered is to just stick like glue, so I sang "Whither Thou Goest" for her and she wet her pants!!! He can't shake her!

Cait, you sweetie!

I'm just in for a quick snort between tours. A "Wee Willy Wilson's" will do for now. I'll be in for a Guinness with "Oban" chaser around 5:30pm. I'll need it to steady my nerves before I head of to that HearMe place with Mike. That'll be about 6:00pm NZST 0600GMT.

Sorry I can't stay to smoke a bowl of shag with you MMario. I'm shagged, but have to shag-off back to work shag-it. And I'm wet as a shag too.

Sláinte... Whew... That was great Cait. Nothing like a wee dram to keep your pecker up. Oh well, back to work..

Hey, my man, if I can dance with a wheelchair bound Steve, You should be able to dance with Praise in a recliner!! anyway, about this funeral, it's kind of an Only in Wyoming type thing. I drove by the Methodist church this AM, and lots a cars, I mean, LOTSA cars. Half the town. Got all the usual stuff--cones, hearse, policeman, etc, and a horse drawn BUGGY! I stopped, parked, (had no idea whose service it was) and just watched a minute. Pretty soon, here come the Pall Bearers, and load the casket into the buggy!! Hearse drives away empty, except for flowers! I seen lots a marryin's with a buggy, but never before a buryin'! Hi ALL! Great night going here........Power Surging!

Ahh!...... What a relief......thanks Caitrin, haven't had a chance to just sit back and nurse a wee dram in weeks. Company year end, books in order, tax time and all. The ordeals over..... for a day or two.

A shot of the Talisker if you please....although I hope it isn't too dear in this establishment.

My daughter just sent me a message from the Isle of Skye a couple of days ago and they were asking $80 a bottle for it at the distillery....bloody hell....it's cheaper on this side of the pond...... including the ride on the boat.....and a train trip across Canada!

On second thought, in protest of their price gouging I'll have a Highland Park, please and just snuggle next to MMario and Praise next to the fan, lest I offend anyone.

She promptly slipped into something more comfortable (girls I know you can relate, lose those bras!!!) and we all laughed big-girl laughs over the wacky adventures we'd been having....

May our men always bring home the cocoa, and that right soon. No marshmallows in mine, maybe a dreamcookie to dip...

Here, you need a Sugar Dog, one's comin' along now...

Hold the phone-- just realized you Tavern folk don't stop to read when you come in! If you did, you'd know--

I am THE Sugar Dog!

You may be A sugar dog, or maybe not.

And I guess since Leej brought it up, the Sugar Dog Man is just the man who KNOWS a Sugar Dog when he SEES one.

Ok you asked for it. Here's the full deal.

The Drunkard King

The pitcher's on the bar
The glass is in my hand
The fag is in the ashtray
I'm in that wonderful land
Known as Tir-na-nog
The land of eternal youth
The beer in my belly
Slowly begins to sooth
The warmth rises to my head
I forget the sorrows of the day
As I feel this great uplifting
There's only one thing I can say:

Drunkenness is my only virtue
The pub is my second home
The taps and bottles are my subjects
The barstool is my throne

The band begins to play its jig
Lonesome songs of yearning
As they strike the first chord
The masses begin their churning
As I slowly drink in
The great water of life
I scan this mystic land
It is empty of all strife
As I sit on my drunken throne
The faeries around me prance
My feet stomp with the drums
Longing to join the dance
Suddenly I laugh and yell
So fucking loud and clear
Every head turns toward me
Their ears straining to hear
As the barman sadly tells me
That I cannot stay
But that's alright for me
Tomorrow is another day

Because:

Drunkenness is my only virtue
So, remember when I sing
That the taps and bottle are my subjects
For I am the drunkard king!

Ah, there's my bottle.

Amergin

Wal bes' bud, it was you who woke up this Sugar Dog! I feel a howl comin' on, a sweet one a-course!

THE SUGAR DOG MAN

This little puppy, she got her a wag
And a wiggle and a giggle and a tail for a flag!
She can always hear the step of the wunnaful Sugar Dog Man,
And the Sugar Dog Man he sees her, huh! As only he can.

Yes the Sugar Dog Man,
Now that's a treasure like wow!
Cuz a Sugar Dog Man, baby--
He ain't never fooled, nohow!

Corgi and Retriever, and a little corraggio sure,
Sugar Dog is faithful with a heart that is pure.
Sugar Dog and Sugar Dog Man, they go for a ride,
Beats keepin' up with that LONG Sugar Dog Man stride!

Yes the Sugar Dog Man,
That's a keeper you know!
Cuz a Sugar Dog Man, lil sugar dogs,
He always knows where to go!

Sugar Dogs is 'licious! An' Sugar Dogs is sweet.
A real Sugar Dog will lick you, yes, right offa your feet!br> Sugar Dog Man don't use a leash, he don't tell you to stay,
Sugar Dog Man just offer a lap, cuz that's the bestest Sugar Dog way!

Yes the Sugar Dog Man,
He treat him his Sugar Dog all right!
Rather play with this old Sugar Dog
Than glare up a Sugar Dog fight.

This little puppy, she got her a wag

Hell, I bin' snoozin' agin'...

Sooz the flooz, had fergit "floosie".

Metch-o-sin with me and a Talisker. We've got a cruise yacht Talisker here. The skipper bought it, complete with a Talisker bottle on board. Laughed me tits off - it was MT - he's a bit of a stingy sod. A guy from Skye was bringing me a bottle last November, but alas, we didn't mother up. BTW - just finished reading "Whisky Galore" again - wonderful yarn about a whole WWII shipload of US bound whisky sinking in the Hebrides, who didn't have a snort in the whole place. I've got a song brewing. A UK programmer mate's got a bottle his grandad salvaged off the real shipwreck.

Wheww... I'm wide awake, "Cait, m'love - what single malts on the bowser?"

Oh, what a Pub this is.....

Bin snoozin' again

Sorch - I'm an innocent wee lad, but I've heard about these Jello Pit thingies. Don't think it's my scene. Too slippery for me, I'd lose my grip. (So what's new, I've lost ny grip on sanity since I met you twerps).

Amergin - "The Drunken King" is beautiful - my theme song, I'm sure.

Well, team, since we're snugged up in the snuggery, may I make a TRUE confession. I've been an "alky" for years, but thanks to the un-sobering influence of you lot, last night, I hit the ultimate depths of depravity. I became a "metho".

Oh hell - think I may have to explain the term. Methylated Spirits is what US-a-Folk would call "rubbing alcohol", "raw spirits" or somesuch - ie methyl alcohol - (definitely not for drinking - makes ya go blind). "Meths" is coloured purple (you can get rid of the colour by straining it through bread).

In NZ (and I guess most other countries) down and outs (Methos) drank meths as cheap a substitute for the real stuff.

Anyway.... After kat popped my cherry last night, I had a few more 'skies than normal, hit the pit, and woke up as dry as a tin god. I stumbled through the dark, and grabbed the bottle of ginger ale, sitting by the computer, and downed a humungeous great slug. WRONG BOTTLE - 'twas the meths I used to clean my ball (mouse) with the other day. Aaaaarrgggghhhhh...

Cait, 'nother Willie Wilsons to obliterate the taste...

After that I may even post my "Ode to Willie Wilsons"

Ta'luv - thats better.

Well Sam, then, yer in the right place. Not just the Tavern, love, but in the hearts and souls of the Mudcat friends you've made.

An' next time ye have balls to clean up, dear man, see one of us! We'd use a far gentler potion than the meths! An' then none of the nasty stuff layin' around, see?

An' I can't find it in my heart to pass you my pitcher, but my smile and my lap and a draught of pure love, now, of these ye may drink most deep.

Keep Sugar Dog's recliner ready for her, now, there's a pal... I'm off to me bed where lies Heartiman the Fiddler.

"Hua ehoa" is gettin' into spiritual realms. And I've just rejuvinated me spirits - NOT Methylated - Risky-lated - What thread am I in Fred? I'm fretting...

Anyway ~S~weeTart. "Friend" ain't a word I'd use for Mudcap. Yer all just a pack of "Tarts".

Oh dear, I'm gettin' into trouble with words.

DANG! Sorry to hear about that, Amos.....here's a song for you:

Well I was rulin the roost, had all the chicks to myself
Suddenly it happened, that funny little feelin I felt
Well I tried to out run it, but it finally caught with me
Tell me how can I run from somethin I can't see?

Oh.....that.....
Little bitty teeny weeny thing
They call the Lovebug
Nobody's ever seen it
But's it got the whole world shook up
It all started with a little bitty kiss and a hug
It's a little bitty teeny weeny thing
They call the Lovebug

Well I always that I had me a pretty good style
But I lost that girl by a good ol country mile
I was walkin all around with my head held way up high
And it fooled me, hit me, really took me by surprise

Oh.....that.....
Little bitty teeny weeny thing
They call the Lovebug
Nobody's ever seen it
But's it got the whole world shook up
It all started with a little bitty kiss and a hug
It's a little bitty teeny weeny thing
They call the Lovebug

Wh-what?? Oh, Mbo, it's you. How is the weekend going? we went to a Civil War re-enactment today and met Mmario! He told me that a certain young man had been on a Wench Walk not long ago and that some bright red lipstick had ended up in the young man's EAR! (Hey, you don't think that nice young man was having text with those wenches, do you?)

Oh and Mbo, Hardiman says if you are really within driving distance of us, you should chuck summer session and come see us! (See the Elmira Mudcatters thread for the rest of what Hardi and I talked about after that!)

Ah, recliners... best idea I ever had, recliners at the Tavern! Hey, I can smoke in here!!! Haven't had a Sherman's since high school I think... anyone have any?

Blastit,

I'm so lonesome down here, I miss ALL the fun. Tears pour down, and water my beer, when I fink of what fun I'm missing.

Cait, love, do you have any real blokes RN OP Rum? You HAVE! Double tot please Tot - oh tar. Whoowee...

In the words of my old OzCob "Bluey Brink" (do a DT search I'm offline and can't do a clicky) that really "set me whiskers alight".

Actually the Aussies are conspicuous by their absence in this thread. (hand over mouth, whisper/mumble, only tell those you can trust, is any Oz watching? Shhhhh... I'll let you into the secret.. Y'know what them Orstralians really are? I'll keep my voice real low, so they can't hear - They're a pack of party poopin' poofters, who can't handle their piss-useless piss!. And, furthermore, y'know what they do to beat Kiwi at cricket. They... they... O'm'God, I am actually going to swear on MudCat, and in the peace and tranquility of my "ehoa" in this hallowed hall of sanctity. You ain't going to believe this, but, once upon a time, those so-called OzCobs, actually won a Cricket Test, by.... hope you can hear this..

UNDERARM BOWLING - and that just ain't cricket!

Wheww... got it off me chest. The Pom's will understand.

Well, I just can't keep up with all the threads in this place, they leave me thread-bare (Cuzzie-bro' of Fred Bear).

Praise, I'm a wee tad confused? Are you telling us that M'boy got "Lipstick on his collar" (or worse, his ear) a few days back? He's only a Freshman, from the East. Please, please don't tell me that we are leading mbo astray. Was our young student "Riding down from Bangor, on an Eastern Train" and did his "mufffled - we going thru' a tunnel" get caught up there, with the lipstick?

Wheww... my mind's boggling. Did mbo "Bang'er" on the trip from Bangor? (Personal mail please - this is a family show).

And, furthermore, this "Wrench Walk" thingie, that you are implicating Mate-Mbo of getting involved in? I boggleth (confused) from the bog (dunny). "Wrench Walk" wheww it takes me back years. Once upon a time I was in love with a real sweet wee chick. I aclledher "Spanner-face" - every time I looked at her, my "nuts tightened"

BTW - "Recliners" I assume, are like my "Lazyboy" a chair whereyercncrankaleva and stretch out?

LOL - Sam

Ahhhhhh, I also worked some this weekend (not as much as I had feared, but food for 45 people, in two batches isn't much to sneeze at.) Mostly I spend the weekend being supportive to family members, my niece, who did something dumb, and doesn't want to talk about it, and is surrounded by baffled, worried adults (we went out and bought what we felt like eating, sat around talking about everything else, read, then slept late.) My husband, who is trying to pull off a massive (week long festival of the music of the millennium) project, and is having a very rugged time with it (I just listen and am as sympathetic as possible, for hours and hours) and my Mom, who is still pretty lost after the death of my Dad (we went to a horse show and watched people doing dressage in elizabethan costume, and talked a lot about doing something constructive with her time. She has one of the busier schedules I know of, but does get bogged down now. It's a real shift for her.) Finally I fell apart this evening. Hey, I work hard and I miss my dad too, and I'm TIRED of being supportive. Give me a recliiier, and don't waste that pussers please. I am much more a fan of rum taken internally please.

Were you ever in Quebec Launching timber on a deck Where you break your bleedin' neck Riding on a donkey

(Was that what you had in mind Mbo?)

There, I think I'm over being sorry for myself.

Oh! The Sugar Dog song's last verses are done. These go in place of the repeated material at the end of the version above.

Now Sugar Dogs is loving, an' Sugar Dogs is nice.
But Sugar Dogs ain't stupid-- no, love, Sugar Dogs is wise.
And Sugar Dogs can always smell just which way to go,
And Sugar Dog, if asked where she sleep, oh yeah, she always know!

See there's a special Sugar Dog Man,
Keeps the Sugar Dog Luhhv Bed.
An' Sugar Dog she surely come there
For to lay down her silky soft head.

So Sugar Dog Man, you may be, an' Sugar Dog, you may see.
Sugar Dog may curl up in your lap, for an hour or maybe three.
But Sugar Dog Man, or friend with a need, Sugar Dog boun' to fly.
Cuz Sugar Dog bidness is callin', an' God alone knows why!

But that ole special Sugar Dog Man--
What keeps the Sugar Dog Luhhv Bed--
He know Sugar Dog will surely come home
For to pillow her silky soft head.

Good Shugah Dawg! (big ol' ear and belly scratch) Sit right here and I'll sing you a song that Angus the Destroyer is quite fond of (Sully won't admit he likes it...damn cats...)

Nobody sleeps at my place
Not the dog, not the cat, and not me
We're up all night, walking the floor
Missing your sweet company
Toenails clicking on the kitchen floor
Tongues hangin' out about a mile or more
Nobody sleeps at my place
Not the dog, not the cat, and not me

Nobody eats at my place
Just an empty table for three
Somehow we lost our appetite
We just ain't hungry
Now when a dog won't eat, and when a cat won't sleep
Better dig a hole, ya better dig it deep
Nobody eats at my place
Not the dog, not the cat, and not me

Everybody howls at my place
The dog, the cat, and me
We take a deep breath and we let it fly
In three part harmony
Now if ya love this dog, and if you love this cat
Come on home and we'll end this spat
Cause everybody howls at my place
The dog, the cat, and me
Nobody eats, nobody sleeps
Not the dog, not the cat, and not me.....
(AAARRRRRROOOOOO)

Everyone's loved at my place,
Yes the dog, the cat, and thee.
We measure your heart by the love deep inside
And return it unstintingly.
Now I'll love your dog, and adore your cat,
But YOU I love the best in your silliest hat;
Cause everyone's loved at my place--
The dog, the cat, and thee--
Everbody eats, everbody sleeps,
Yep! the dog, Yep! the cat, and, 'spesh'lly, Yep! thee!
