I just heard Linda Ronstadt and Garrison Keillor sing, "Lord of All to Thee We Raise, This Our Hymn of Grateful Praise". I've always liked this old hymn but they sang it with a bit of a ragtime accompaniment and the song really came alive.

When I went looking for the lyric on Mudcat I found a Christmas version of the song but I really prefer this clear message of appreciation "for the beauty of the earth, for the splendor of the skies".

I tried the Gospel link but had less luck there.

I'd really like to be able to sing more than the two or three half-remembered verses I have I my head. Can anyone help?

Sourdough

In Rise Up Singing: For the Beauty of the Earth.
odd, I can't seem to find it in the digitrad or forum search.

For the Beauty of the Earth
For the beauty of the earth
For the glory of the skies
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.

For the wonder of each hour
Of the day and of the night
Hill and vale and tree and flower
Sun and moon and stars of light

For the joy of human love
Brother, sister, parent, child
Friends on earth and friends above
For all gentle thoughts and mild

For each perfect gift of thine
To our race so freely given
For thy constant love divine
Peace on earth and joy in heaven.

Hi Sourdough,

The Cyber Hymnal - lots of hymn midis and info.

Hymnsite - here you can choose a midi with piano, organ or bells.

Chocolate Pi: Thank you for the lyric. I've already had the Autoharp out and have been working the tune out. It sounds wonderful on the harp.

I knew these lyrics weren't in Digitrad. I was surprised, too.

Mary in KY: Those URLs you suggested are good sources. The music in Hymsite is surprisingly good. Hymsite also has a couple more verses of Our Hymn of Grateful Praise. I'm not religious but I sure do like singing good gospel.

And for those of us who missed it, don't forget that the show will eventually show up at A Prairie Home Companion Just check the Archived Performances. I intended to give a random sample of an old show, but for whatever reason, I keep getting this message: Forbidden Your client is not allowed to access the requested object. . . . must be dangerous stuff.

Sourdough - If you like singing gospel, you'll probably like this link to Southern Harmony that I picked up from Okiemockbird.

Dale - I bookmarked that site to Prairie Home Companion. I really like the way you can just click on a portion of the program you want to hear. I'll be watching for the May 6th (or 7th) program. Thanks.

2 other verses found in the Methodist Hymnal.

For the joy of ear and eye,
For the heart and mind's delight
For the mystic harmony
Linking sense to sound and sight.

For thy church, that evermore
Lifteth holy hands above
Offereing up on every shore
her pure sacrifice of love.
