Subject: RE: 'Rebel concert row: (Wolfe Tones) From: Brendy Date: 09 May 00 - 07:29 PM Not bad for a band that was too 'afraid' to play in the NOI in the early 1980's at a charity function for a prisoners relief organisation. It was no more dangerous for them as it was for bands like us who travelled it's highways and byways every weekend. I lost all respect for them after that. B. |

Subject: RE: 'Rebel concert row: (Wolfe Tones) From: InOBU Date: 10 May 00 - 08:02 AM Well said Brendy That marks the difference between truely socially activist musicians, as with a young friend of mine from Kerry, who plays for communities in need fearlessly, while the - Guns of the IRA - style bands, often havent a clue about the politics in Ireland or the US, and are just chasing a buck or a pound. There was a rather funny comment, maybe here on Mudcat calling for the Wolftones to decomission their arms. I must admit, I have liked a few of their songs, but I find their musicianship rather heavy handed - subtle as a German Jazzband? (No offence to any in F**king Austria I know, I know, it isnt the same country - Now that I have offended EVERYONE I will just say All the best Larry |
