I need a wee spot of advice from any catters in the UK or Europe regarding performance opportunities (clubs, festivals, busking - ANYTHING) in the UK or mainland Europe in the second half of 2001.

I am in a progressive choir called The SOlidarity Choir. We sing songs of freedom from around the world and (by then will) have 2 CDs under our collective belt. We are looking to tour o/s next year. I am also in a trio called Touchwood - all the members are in the choir anyway, so the trio would also be available to perform (Early music to contemporary, with voice, lute, guitar, bodhran).

the question is, where do we start? What are the best festivals? what festivals might be more likely to give us a go? Are there any similar choirs we should get in touch with? Will it be too unbearably cold in November in England when the Raise Your Banners Festival is on?

ANY advice would be welcome: at the moment we feel overwhelmed with choices. It would be very useful to hear from some Mudcatters at this point.

Thanking you in advance

Callie

Callie
Can I have some more info.
If the trio are anywhere near Cornwall we may be able to fix something up.
Regards Baz

If you can give me more info.. any music samples? MP3, whatever... I can talk to the guy that organises our club here ( near Glasgow, Scotland).. we have regular guest artist slots...

In general Glasgow is OK for busking ... police are tolerant... several pedestrianised areas in city centre

some fairly large ensembles regularly busk at weekends

Regards

Steven C

Thanks guys. Each group has its own website. I can provide the Touchwood one now:

http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/Studio/3165/Touchwood.htm

It's a little out of date, but will give you the general idea.

The choir also has a website, but I can't for the life of me find it. Will post a link here as soon as I can.

Come on Callie if we can live in Sheffield - you can cope with a quick visit. From what I've seen of the Raise your Banners Festival , everyone seems to enjoy it. The weather in Novemeber is very variable - possible snow , possible sunshine , probable rain/drizzle.

Julie: our dilemma is do we go in November during "Raise Your Banners" (which would be right up our alley) or try our luck at festivals, which are more likely to take place in summer months?

As for myself, I'd swap beach for snow any day!
