I won $83 in Club Keno last week. I thought she said $* not $83 - it took a while to sink in.

Seems to me with raffle tickets that as soon as I buy the tickets and hold them in my hand I know if I'm going to win or not. The first time this happened I was in high school, and the second time I remember I bought 3 tickets for a dollar and I felt the 3 tickets and held out the one which was going to win. It was a fundraising raffle so I bought some more tickets because I knew I would win. I did win, and on the ticket I said it was going to be. It was a vertical grill, and since I'm not much of a meat eater I never used it much & finally gave it away to the Salvation Army store.

I don't remember feeling that I was going to win the bar fridge, though, from the local bottle shop, so I kept giving the store owner the third degree when he rang up trying to tell me I had won. I thought it was a hoax.

Helen

Twelve years ago, I won the best (and only) prize I can ever remember. A fabulous Scottish Lass, who didn't know beans about folk music, could stop traffic, had a great brain and could have set her sights a lot higher than a me. What a prize.

The last thing I've won was a book of poetry, for having one of my poems selected as poem of the month on an internet poetry site.

The night I won the Martin D-76 I was playing at a bar in a bowling alley in Crown Point, Indiana. (I remember the place looked like a cave; stalctites and stalgmites were all over the place. Terrible sight lines!) While ending a set I got a phone call. (Now remember that these were the days long before "caller ID". But the minute I was told there was a call for me I KNEW I had won that guitar ! I took the phone and said to whoever was calling, "I won the guitar, right?"

They were blown away---but to me, it was just a truism---an accomplished fact. I have never felt certain like that ever before or since. I drove through an ice storm and got back to Chicago at 3:00 A.M. That annual GEORGE WASHINGTON'S BIRTDAY party at the Old Town School of Folk Music (where the raffle had been conducted) was still going strong. (Those used to go all night.)

Might be case for Mulder and Scully, huh?

Long time ago was determined to win a diamond solitaire in a local jeweler's contest.

Got writers cramp from that one, Ladies and Gents. I entered probably 100 times, walked miles through the city's malls.

Tony, my husband, fills out one form. Guess who won the solitare? But, I am wearing it, so I can't complain....

Next time the TX lottery gets to 13M I am making the boy buy a ticket or three....

Next thing I won was a baby Norfolk pine tree that turned out to be dead. Last thing I won was 10 1bs of all purpose garden fertilizer. Don't know as I want to win anything else....

Today was the local school fete and along with a great tem of people we've been working very hard for several months for the great day. Arrived early this morning to find that a volunteers worker's wallet had been stolen, followed by several more during the day - this is unprecedented in our community. Then I cooked the amp and/or speakers of some high quality PA gear that I had borrowed from what used to be a great friend.

Late in the day I checked the results of the sundry raffles I'd entered. Two very big mud crabs and a bottle of good Australian white followed by a second win of a pack of Nutrimetics cosmetics, a facial for two, dinner and drinks for two and some movie tickets. I checked when I got home and I may have the winning ticket for an unclaimed BBQ meat tray. This might just pay for some of the cost of fixing the PA. Regards, John

Finishing the night on a high, we netted $30,000 today for our school of 400 kids.

This is ALL such wonderful fun to read!

A Martin for under $10....perfect. (she says with a sigh as she saves up her pennies for her first steel-string).

Mooh, so you are the one who won in Goderich? Wasn't the answer the cross that the streets made when you looked on the map, or something like that? (I was at the festival, not the college, but they announced something about it at the friday afternoon concert).

The last thing I won was a L-O-N-G time ago. It was a raffle at the Old Town School Of Folk Music in Chicago. their store, the Old Town Folklore Center, had a guitar that was literally too expensive to sell---so the raffled it off. The 500 tickets were $3.00 each. I bought 3 of them--and I won. That guitar has been my main instrument ever since 1976. In recent years I just about destroyed it when I closed the trunk on it. Jan Burda did an amazing job putting it back together. It looks better than ever now. This was the guitar I converted from a 6-string guitar to a 9-string when my hands were going numb.

Oh, it was a bicentennial commmemorative limited edition Martin guitar. They made 1,976 of the D-76 model.

I won a haircut in a raffle sponsored by my Dad's Lion's Club! For me this was almost as dubious an honor as winning an elk was for JenEllen, since I've had what I'd call Marcia Brady hair for over thirty years. You know, long, straight, parted in the middle (but usually in need of a trim, unlike Marcia). Don't know what possessed me --probably the ecstatic feeling of getting something for free-- but I got most of it chopped off with little or no premeditation, and now I wouldn't want to go back to long! I'm completely uncomfortable in a hair salon, though, and didn't take it too kindly when the woman washing my hair inquired whether I had ever considered getting my eyebrows "done".... hmph! I won last year's Celtic College contest, and won a collage by a local artist but I don't think it's been created as I've yet to collect. Never rush an artist. A sorta Celtic Collage. All I had to do was identify (ie find) a specific Celtic cross in town somewhere.

Otherwise I never win anything. I've made lots of promises I'll have to keep if I win a big lottery though, especially the ones to myself, like giving it all to charity or something like that. Uh huh. Mooh.

I won a very nice cookbook which has an AWESOME (and very easy)fudge pie recipe. A couple times I won tickets over the radio, once to see Emmylou Harris, and another to see Arlo Guthrie.

Mister's dad is retired and his hobby is entering contests. One day a package appeared on the doorstep with one of those nice big make-up cases and a bunch of Cover Girl stuff in it - Dad had entered my name somewhere. Don't use Cover Girl, gave all that away, but kept the case. He has also won two cruises and a trip to England. Mister and I got one of the cruises for our honeymoon trip (take a cruise just once in your life, it's great!), he took my brother-in-law on the other one, and took a friend to England.

I also won at auction once a purple fringed Western shirt that had belonged to one of my favorite fiddlers, Woody Paul of Riders in the Sky.

At the last fundraiser céilí I went to, I won a ten-day trip to Scotland, on a bus tour, in the middle of winter . . . needless to say, I gave it to the eejit that was sitting next to me (with his kilt on backwards) who'd started to cry when he didn't win it.

I have been a recent winner...TWICE, as a matter of fact!!!

The other day Max said I'd won the prize on the "Ani DiFranco" thread which was an all expense paid trip for him to come here and kick my ass.

The other is the "Dimwitted Incredible Dumbass of a Dimbulb" award for not having a clue as to what the hell Praise is talking about on the "Simple Heroes" thread.

In sponsorship of the local middle school, I bought a $2 raffle ticket. Promptly forgot about the whole thing until I got a call notifying me that I had won an ELK!!! Meat butchered, cut, and wrapped to my specifications, of course. Now, I have the occasional (3 or so times a year) steak, but have pretty much vowed not to eat anything that has eyelashes. But they happily donated it to an Idaho food bank for me....

Well, I can't remember, but I have a friend, a single mom, who went to a business-after-hours get together that the local Chanber of Commerce puts on once per month. This time it was at the collge. In front of the college, whose mascot is the Thunderbird, is a huge bronze statue of a Native American Thunderbird dancer, with wings outspread, designed and made by a well-known Native American artist, Chris Navarro.

They had a drawing for two prizes; one was a trip to Vegas, the other a small copy of the statue about 18" high, signed and numbered by Chris and valued at $1,000. My friend won the statue!
