Used quite effectively as an urban weapon of revolt, the simple strand of barbed wire can strip a car of all four tyres, disable a landrover towing a horse box and quite often cause huge trucks to overturn, thus blocking the road for hours. Probably what the line is about, as it is road haulage that is killing the droving/cattle drive traditions and business.

LTS (who would never dream of doing such a thing.....)

Sorcha your probably right about the barbed wire (razor wire) it was often to be seen (during troubled times)used as baricades achieved by just grabbing thew ends (carefully) and draging it across a road

Well, in Wy, USA, we do have barbed wire (aka bobwhor) which comes in rolls, and when you break open the roll, it hoops and spins all over the place, including the road if the road is too close to the fence line. Could that be it?

The song "Darling Downs" by Pat Drummond has the line "With a few hoops of wire on the roadway slowing the truckers down". This is while he is droving cattle in Australia.

Can someone explain the "hoops of wire"? We don't have that in the states...

Thanks in advance for the help.
