Hi

In the absence of Alan of Oz, I'll have a go at this one. (He's off on holiday but I'm sure he'll be able to give you more info when he gets back next week.)

It has also been recorded by Priscilla Herdman, and by Ian Mac Dougall.

Sorry I can't give you the names of LPs.

Hope this helps.

Slainte

Alison

Best possible recording of this was done by Gerry Hallom! He is Aussie(or maybe just lived in OZ awhile?)...record is "Travellin' Down the Castlereigh"....he gets the rhythm right!! You can't believe the difference it makes to the song!!

Fellside Records FE026
Workington,Cumbria,England

Bill, I think Gerry is one of the many Brits (Pommies, Alan?) who went Down Under for awhile, soaked up the music, then went back home to England; A. L. Lloyd and Martyn Wyndham-Read being another two...

The Priscilla Herdman recording is on "The Water Lily," Philo CD 1014. The whole CD is Australian stuff, mostly lyrics by Lawson, set to music by Priscilla and others. Good stuff.

There are a ton of recordings of the Henry Lawson Poem "Ändy's Gone With Cattle"

Its proberly one of the most recorded poems of Henry Lawson because its simple to put to music.

Lawson re-wrote the poem a number of times, with Ruddick books on Henry Lawson listing most of the variations.

These is a second poem by Henry Lawson as a follow up called "Andy's Return", which has been also recorded by a lot of Artists.

Martyn recorded it on the LPs Andy's gone for cattle and Emu Plains. On Bullokies, Bushwackers & Booze it was sung by Phyl Vinnicombe, on Folksongs of Australia (Denis Gibbons) by Margaret Monks, and on the Folk on Friday LP by Redd Sullivan.
