Subject: Lyr Add: DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT
From: sophocleese
Date: 19 May 00 - 11:17 AM

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lighting they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Dylan Thomas

Hold on tight to your dream
Hold on tight to your dream
When you see your ship go sailing
When you feel your heart is breaking
Hold tight to your dream.

It's a long time to be gone
Time just rolls on and on
When you need a shoulder to cry on
When you get so sick of trying
Just hold tight to your dream

When you get so down that you can't get up
And you want so much but you're all out of luck
When you're so downhearted and misunderstood
Just over & over & over you could

Accroches-toi a ton reve
Accroches-toi a ton reve
Quand tu vois ton bateau partir
Quand tu sents -- ton coeur se briser
Accroches-toi a ton reve.

Hold on tight to your dream
Hold on tight to your dream
When you see the shadows falling
When you hear that cold wind calling
Hold on tight to your dream.

Hold on tight to your dream
Yeah, hold on tight...
To your dream!

My favorite ELO song, and my own personal theme song.

Anyone know the proper phrasing for the Simone de Beauvoir quote from the daycare scenes in a 70s Doonesbury strip with Joanie - something about there being 2 kinds of people, human beings and men (or human beings and women, I can't get it to make sense either way, but the gist is ...) that when women start acting like human beings, they are accused of trying to be men?

Act like a human being, is my motto. Which, when I say it to my kids, tends to come out Behave! - to which at least one has already answered But mom, I'm being hayve!

If you put a little loving into all the work you do
And a little bit of gladness, and a little bit of you,
And a little bit of sweetness, and a little bit of song,
Not a day will seem too tollsome; not a day will seem too long;
And your work will be attractive, and the world will stop to look,
And the world will see a sweetness, like the tinkling of a brook,
In the finished job, and then the world will turn to look at you
With a world's appreciation of the thing you've found to do.

This is my own little do it quote which I sadly haven't lived by:

Now matter how solid the ground where you stand, hesitation can turn it into quick sand ..

As an American living in Canada I get a little tired of hearing the U.S. trashed — usually when I tell somebody I'm going somewhere south — as such a violent place. My standard answer has become: "I'd rather die from a bullet than boredom."

But then, if I really wanted some violence, I'd play hockey...

cheers,

david

I find th idea of dying from a bullet extremely boring. Don't care what bore it is either.

Never do today what you can put off till tomorrow

Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the government, when it deserves it.

Heard that somewhere, can't remember where....

Thanks ddw.....This thread is way too cheery. I was getting a bad case of gas...........but for all you "cheery" types quoting these eminent people, why not go with:

"There ain't nothin' to it but to do it." Kermit the Frog

Life is like a sewer - what you get out of it, depends on what you put into it...

Soon we'll be out into the hard worlds strife, soon we'll be sliding down the razor blade of life....

And my own personal chant -

Hearts full of youth
Hearts full of truth
Six parts gin to one part vermouth!

With thanks to Tom Lehrer.
