Subject: RE: Name That Artist From: Ringer Date: 24 May 00 - 07:48 AM I remember "Mad House on Castle Street" as a TV (not a radio) play. Fuzzy black-and-white. About 1960? |
Subject: RE: Name That Artist From: SDShad Date: 24 May 00 - 08:09 AM I hadn't known that Dylan had played piano for Bobby Vee. But I did once have an interesting conversation with a woman who grew up in Hibbing, MN going to school with Bobby Zimmerman. She told me of a time not too many years after high school when Bobby--who hadn't finished at Hibbing HS, as I recall--came home for a short time. Bobby had always talked about how he planned to be really successful in music, and when he came home that time, he was claiming that the music being released under the name Bobby Vee was in fact performed by him, Bobby Zimmerman, under a pseudonym. Hey, there was no MTV at the time, who in Hibbing, MN had ever actually seen Bobby Vee? So apparently there was at least a bit of truth to the story Bobby Zee was spinning for his old classmates.... Chris |
Subject: RE: Name That Artist From: Whistle Stop Date: 24 May 00 - 08:50 AM The Bobby Vee backup thing was a tale told by Dylan in his early days. A lot of those tales were suspect, and I've never actually heard this one verified. Does anyone know for sure that he played backup for Bobby Vee? My guess is that this was a fabrication by the young and still largely unknown Mr. Dylan (who was never really a studio-caliber piano player). Those who have followed other threads concerning him know that I'm a rabid Dylan fan. But I felt compelled to voice my doubts about this one. |
Subject: RE: Name That Artist From: mactheturk Date: 24 May 00 - 08:41 PM In the spring of 1960 I hitched a ride with two guys in a Studebaker that were traveling south on route 61, towards New York. The drivers' name was Bobby Vee and he refered to his buddy as "Bobby Zee", they claimed to be musicians. They said they were going to visit a friend that was paralyzed by some rare disease. The sick friends' name was Woody. Mac the Finger |
