Maybe they'll be asleep when the bottle ends. You can't find the words that will send these birds away. The words were once his hammer and his nails. Maybe there's a box that will carry him away. Maybe there is heart's blood if that should fail... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hammer and Nails (Dave Schramm) re: TVZ From: Jim Dixon Date: 05 Dec 11 - 04:10 PM Our guest Mrbisok failed to get a discussion going back in 2000 about the song HAMMER AND NAILS by Dave Schramm, which is (in part, at least) about Townes Van Zandt. Maybe he would have succeeded if more people had been familiar with the song. So let's take a step back and see if anyone can provide the lyrics or a link to a recording. I haven't heard the whole song myself. Spotify doesn't have it. I don't think YouTube has it. Allmusic.com describes the album "Hammer and Nails" but it doesn't have any samples. There is a 1-minute+ sample on the web site of The Schramms. Just to make things complicated, there are several other songs with the same title: Alexis Korner wrote and recorded one. Dick Glasser wrote one, and Dean Martin recorded it. Aaron Schroeder and David Hess wrote one, and The Staple Singers recorded it. And more. |

Subject: Dave Shram's song a/b Towns V.Z. From: GUEST,Mrbisok@aol Date: 21 May 00 - 11:05 PM Does the name Dave Shram, a 90's singer-songwriter, ring bells with anyone? About 3 years ago he had a CD "Hammer and Nails" featuring a song, which hast to be, it just hast to be about Towns Van Zant. "Sustained by the wine or the songs he knew/ I didn't know 'em all but I knew a few/ And he can't find the words that will send these birds away/ The words were once his hammer and his nails/ Maybe they're the box that will carry him away/ Come put a shoulder to a corner there." Hey, a lot of you out there write words to be sung. For you, WORDS are your hammer and your nails. Is the above evidence of lyrical brilliance, or what? Response would be appreciated. |
