Hey all,

Listening to the CD of "The Irish and How They Got That Way", there is very cool song called Ireland Boys Hooray!. They reference the song as one sung by troops during the American Civil War, telling a rather moving story of Union and Confederate troops singing with each other across the Potomac River the night before Fredricksburg.

The Chorus goes like this:

Ireland boys hooray! Ireland boys hooray! We'll toast ole Ireland, Dear ole Ireland, Ireland boys hooray!

Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can muster much more of the verses as the singers' accents come out in full force and the words get kinda muddled. I think one of them goes like this:

We've heard our faults a hundred times In sermons, rants and rhymes some thing some thing something...

And I think another verse goes for a while and then finishes with:

And with a loud harroo we fired at you and swiftly cleared the way, We'll toast ole Ireland, dear ole Ireland Ireland boys hooray.

So....... anyone got a clue what I'm talking about? :)

Rob O

Is this the one you're looking for?  Ireland, Boys, Hurrah.

Found through the new Digitrad and Forum search facility on the main Forum page.

Okay, I didn't think of a forum search.

Now, anyone know a good chord progression for it? I'm guessing a fairly straight forward one...

Re: Ireland Boy, Hurrah! My understanding is that the song is from the time of the Fenian (sp)uprising . The song was written in the 1860's refering to the Irish "on the run" meeting in Canada. I have a copy of a 1950's recording on Copley records sung by James O'Neil.
