OK, it's not a true folk song, but I guess a bit of a new generation folk song. I've never heard this song before, though, and I consider myself fairly well knowledgeable on acoustic music. But a friend claims this is the ultimate live acoustic song.

My question is: Who wrote it, and who has recorded it? (What albums can I find it on?)

thanx Brian

Dear Brian -

Sounds like "Please Come to Boston" by David Alan Coe. You can find lyrics, etc. at:

http://www.roughstock.com/cowpie/cowpie-songs/c/coe_david_alan/

It may not be traditional folk, but, to quote D.A. Coe himself: "If that ain't country, you can kiss my a**!"

Have fun.

It has been recorded by a ton of people. Two easily available recordings are by Joan Baez and Willie Nelson (Willie's is on The City of New Orleans album). Yours, Peter

PLEASE COME TO BOSTON was actually written by Dave Loggins.

Some notable recordings were by Joan Baez, Glen Campbell, David Allan Coe, Dave Loggins, Reba McEntire, Willie Nelson, and Billy Joe Royal; there are many others.

See the thread: Lyr/Chords Req: Please Come to Boston (D Loggins).
