For those who didn't get it. The Onion is a very offbeat cyber-humor magazine And BTW, copywrite is also a real word, refering to the creation of advertising text, which is then protected by copyright

I heard "copywritten" on a Madeline Brand article on NPR. If it was on NPR, is must be OK, yes ?

More seriously, and in the pedantic tradition, here's the right way to speak about copyright:

One does not "copyright" a work; one "claims copyright in" a work. If one files the paperwork with the Library of Congress, one "registers a claim of copyright in" the work. A work in which copyright is claimed is, however, ordinarily spoken of as "copyrighted", even sometimes by judges. But true pedants will say that "copyright is claimed" in it, and speak of it not as a "copyrighted" work, but "a work in which copyright is claimed."

I hope this helps, or at least amuses.

T.

Yeah Dave, I agree with you. I think thosp does understand, but it bugs me too....especially when someone uses "copywritten."

"Pedantic tendencies"?? Pedantic TENDENCIES?

I've been a full-blown, card-carrying pedant for 69 years, and don't intend to stop now!

More seriously, though, "copywrite" is not just a casual misspelling; it hints that the writer doesn't understand the word.

MMario, the copyrighting fire URL is

http://www.brunching.com/features/feature-copyfire.html

The site is called "The Brunching Shuttlecocks", so perhaps your filter has a beef against badminton.

I guess this is a good place to remind the forum of this funny Sjoberg piece about copyrighting fire:

Fire, Work with Me

I clicked on the blue thingy, thosp:on what planet does Nathan Davis live? People have been going to Checker Auto or Auto Zone for years and purchasing oil filters and oil and changing the oil in their vehicles. Nathan, who evidently holds a very responsible job with Atlantic Records, needs to find a better example.
