Thanks heaps to you Malcom Douglas. They were the very words I wanted.

I wonder about the background tho' since I didt know about a connection with the Tannahill Weavers.

I came across the song whilst digitising some 20 year old folk brackets of made of friends with whom I lost contact over the years. It was too hard to get the lyrics clear from the audio and I liked it so much on hearing it again that I wanted to add it to my own singing repertoire.

here's the bit that the Tannahill Weavers write to this song on their website:

"Here is a love song with a difference. Translated from the Gaelic, it tells of the person's love for the island of Mull. We find on our travels that people who live hundreds of miles from the ocean (beachcombers do not tend to inhabit cities such as Omaha, Nebraska, or Stuttgart) find it hard to relate to the fact that it is possible to fall in love with an island. Some have even gone so far as to say they find the whole idea perverse.

We are happy to say that in Scotland we do not find it perverted in the slightest. Falling in love with an island is an everyday occurrence here and perfectly acceptable to society in general.

A Scottish pervert is something completely different... a man who prefers women to whiskey."

If you would like to hear either song, (and great versions to boot), "Joy of My Heart", or "Cuillins of Home", check out Archie Fisher. Cullins of Home is on the recording Sunsets I've Galloped Into and Joy of My Heart I think is on the live album he did with Garnet Rogers "Off the Map".
