Hi, all. I'm going to be in the Denver/Fort Collins area June 9-11, visiting with my 5-year-old daughter Shayna who will be traveling through there with my soon-to-be-ex-wife. Anybody know any song circles, shows, or kid's activities going on that weekend? Or any good museums or other places for kids? Thanks!

Aloha,
Mark

Mark, you'll just miss the Allan C/ Bugga Sables party at my house just west of Denver, but there maybe something else going on. I'll PM you.

Mark, bring her up to the Wyoming Culture Fest in Casper (June 10th, there is a thread on it, lots of free stuff for kids), where you can meet Bill and Allan at MY house! Yeah! And, WyoWoman just joked about coming up for it, so...there ya go, hitch a ride!**BG**

Denver has some wonderful museums..the Denver Museum of Natural History and the Denver Zoo are both nice spots.

Enjoy your visit. Been missing you in HearMe.

Thanks, kat. But how long a drive is it? I only have three days with her and I don't want to spend most of them in the car (!) I haven't been in Wyoming since 1982, when I visited my friend in Buffalo while moving from Philly to Portland. Sure was beautiful. Well, if Naomi winds up in Boulder, I'm sure I'll make it up there. If she winds up in Honolulu (I hope so), then I probably won't. But you folks are still welcome out here, you know... ;-)
And thanks, LEJ, I'll watch for the message.

Aloha,
Mark

Oh, Mark, depending on how much lead ya have in your foot and whereabouts you're coming from, it's between 4-6 hours. And, I certainly understand not wanting to spend all of your time in a car. There are so many great things to do there, even just Boulder for a day can be fun and you can find some really nice spots for a picnic right up Boulder Canyon.

Good wishes for you on it working out for Honolulu and for a good visit in Colorado.

I used to enjoy Blackhawk and Tell city when I was going to Denver, If you get to Tell City, see the "Face on the Bar Room Floor." As I recall it was painted for the cost of a couple of drinks. Theres also gold mining in the stream on the way up from Golden. Absolutely fantastic country.

I thought that was in Central City?

I think your right kat, I guess my memory for cities just aint what it used to be. But I sure remember the gal I was with, and the dinner we had at Blackhawk Inn with all the wild game on the menu. Both were delicious.

Ah, that's okay, Dan, I grew up with stories of all that area since most of my ancestors settled near there then went over the hill to the Western Slope. Central City was a pretty cool place to visit when I was a kid. And, anyway, it's better that you remember HER and the dinner, more than the where!**BG**

Mark, there's a Hootenanny (click) Friday, June 9, Swallow Hill Music Association, 71 East Yale at Broadway. I went to one last year, and it was absolutely terrific - it cost me three bucks, and there's a great coffee shop around the corner. It's hosted by Harry Tuft, and he's kind of legendary. I think your daughter will enjoy the show, too. They used to have open sings and stuff like that on Thursday nights, but their Thursday Night Coffee House page wasn't working when I checked.
There's a great old-fashioned amusement park, Lakeside Amusement Park on Sheridan. The real classic park was Elitch Gardens, but it was replaced by a housing development; and a new Six Flags Elitch Gardens was built that's just like a usual Six Flags park. It's nice, but Lakeside is not to be missed.
There's also a new aquarium, and the natural history museum is extraordinary and has an exciting planetarium show. You could also see a ball game at Coors Field, or go to the library or art museum, or just walk around the Capitol, or visit the home of the Unsinkable Molly Brown. If you've got plenty of money, you can eat Rocky Mountain oysters and rattlesnake and listen to great folk music from Roz Brown and Bill Barwick at the Buckhorn Exchange Restaurant, south of downtown by the railroad tracks.

But your daughter deserves to go to Lakeside - take her on the train around the lake.

I actually worked quite hard during the six weeks I was in Denver last year - but boy, I sure did have a good time!

Have a good trip, Mark. Be ready for the June hailstorms.

Geez, Joe, sounds like you grew up there!**BG** Nice to know Lakeside is still there! I hate that the old Elitch's isn't. I used to love visiting grandma because it always meant a trip there. Glad you mentioend Molly Brown's, too, it is lovely, isn't it?

Oh, and Mark, if you go to the Capitol be sure to go inside and follow up the stairs if they;; still let you to inside the dome. It is really neat and has some beautiful historical murals.

Joe, if I were Mbo, I'd say "Whoa, THANKS, JOE!! AWESOME!!!!! You RULE!!!!!"
But since it's me I'll just say "Mahalo a nui loa" (Hawaiian for "thanks very, very much" -- literally, thank you, big and long). I really appreciate the suggestions, and the research! I can tell you enjoyed Denver. I guess if my soon-to-be-ex is going to wind up somewhere other than Hawaii, Boulder (and Denver) won't be a bad place to go visit Shayna. But it'll be a whole lot better if she's in Honolulu -- that's only a 45 minute plane ride away. Oh, well, if patience is a virtue, I've got a head start on sainthood. Thanks again, everybody.

Aloha,
Mark

Oh, yes, that hootenanny sounds like it will be fantastic--just what I was hoping for. And I'm really looking forward to Lakeside--when I was a kid we used to go to Willow Grove Park near Philly, probably the same vintage. They even had a wooden Cyclone rollercoaster, just like they still have at Lakeside! (I think Shayna will probably pass on the Cyclone, but it's great to know it's there.)
