Subject: helpful cathartic songs needed! From: GUEST,jayohjo Date: 28 May 00 - 07:46 PM okay, ive just broken up with a very nice boy - my decision - so i need suitable songs, and picking the brains of everyone at mudcat seems as good a way to find some as any! it always helps, i find, to sing about stuff. something a bit sad, but with some kind of strong feeling to it as well. maybe balladyish? but not necessarily. i know im not being very specific, but i know the perfect song/songs exist out there som |
Subject: RE: helpful cathartic songs needed! From: mactheturk Date: 28 May 00 - 11:30 PM You might try this one by David Wilcox.... A tattered old kite, must have been spring when you got flown, there's no leaves in sight, left you to swing up there alone, tangled in branches, held by a string that once let you fly in trusted breeze. Love I've flown,... I know the way it feels. As I walk on the ice, the river is silent as a stone, the same river twice, but the one we walked into is gone, downstream forever or so it would seem, the warm summer rain so deeply flows. Love floated me.... I know the way it goes. I can't work this key, damn thing is jammed or frozen closed, it's a strange place to be, trying to pry my own windows, but there was a second, a match that was made, a key that is warm inside your purse. Love opened me.... I know the way it works. Tattered old kite, walk on the ice, can't work this key.
great melody too, Mac |

Subject: RE: helpful cathartic songs needed! From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 29 May 00 - 11:54 AM For some reason your query brought to mind the Oggy/Oggie Man by Cyril Tawney, which ought to be in the DT but ain't. In fact I might just set off another thread, to see if anyone's got the lyrics. |
Subject: RE: helpful cathartic songs needed! From: catspaw49 Date: 29 May 00 - 12:29 PM Here's a couple that might fit in......Hope the blue clicky works. Both are by Patrick Sky, so if the links don't work, enter his name in the forum search and you'll locate them. Or just enter the song title. Pat wrote some beautiful ballads. Spaw |

Subject: RE: helpful cathartic songs needed! From: WyoWoman Date: 29 May 00 - 04:14 PM Well, I know it's not folk, but when I was unceremoniously dumped last year, my daughter sent me a couple of Ani DiFranco CDs and while Ani is a bit overwrought for listening to all the time, I find her edgy, pissed off ranting perfect for certain situations, such as breakups and other unwelcomed transitions. Subject: RE: helpful cathartic songs needed! From: Sorcha Date: 29 May 00 - 05:18 PM Well, it's not exactly a song, but I remember years ago when I broke up with the biggest manipulating, co-dependent, passive-agressive (divorced) asshole I have ever met, I came in crying. Mom said, "Well, honey, do you want him back?" OH DEAR GOD NOOOOOOOO! "Then why are you crying?" Stopped crying almost immediatley. |

Subject: RE: helpful cathartic songs needed! From: GUEST,Dan-Nova Scotia Date: 30 May 00 - 11:10 PM I wrote this with a different situation in mind but it might help. I have been separated three years and when performing in the UK I met someone for the first time since my separation who made me look at the world a bit differently and say that there are bright spots to all I'm going through. Here's the outcome: There are so many roads never taken There are too many dreams pass us by There are so many paths we've forsaken There are too many hopes untried CH: And it's time for a change for the better It's time for a change in me It's time just to smile and sit for a while in the warmth of your sweet company There are so many words never spoken Leaving too many answers denied There are so many words said in anger Leaving too many tears undried Now we each have the freedom to follow Our heads or our hearts if we please We can save all our joys for tomorrow Or go where our hearts want to lead We each have to make choices and to experience pain to grow. Sometimes it just hurts like hell but in the end, hopefully we're a bit stronger a bit wiser and a bit happier with ourselves as a result. All the best. |

Subject: RE: helpful cathartic songs needed! From: SINSULL Date: 01 Jun 00 - 11:07 AM "If He Walked Into My Life Today" I forget who - Melba Moore? Diane Carroll? |
Subject: RE: helpful cathartic songs needed! From: Gary T Date: 01 Jun 00 - 11:37 PM This may be a bit specialized, but if it has been or turns out to be a back and forth situation (break up/make up), check out "Four in the Morning". It's a spendid old country song, recorded by Faron Young (I'm pretty sure). I imagine it can be found on Cowpie (see links info in Mudcat FAQ at top of thread title list). If either applies here, please accept my congratulations or condolences on the close of this chapter in your life. |

Subject: RE: helpful cathartic songs needed! From: SeanM Date: 02 Jun 00 - 12:28 PM Coming into this thread late, but The Shape of My Love is a wonderful little ditty I heard done for a renaissance faire slant just last weekend... M |
