If you are thinking of visiting B.C. this summer, you might want to consider this. Victoria is hosting a three day Rootsfest (sorry Aussies not that kind of orgy) and some of the lineup are:

Altan
Joan Armatrading
The Blind Boys of Alabama
Blue Rodeo
David Lindley
Ferron
Mad Pudding
Natalie MacMaster
Pied Pumpkin
Shooglenifty
and
Mandolerium (with my little brother!)

Plus many more.

You can find out more information at this site and if any Mudcatter is planning on coming to our little Island and needs accommodation feel free to contact me.

our family is planning a trip west to vancouver next summer, 2001, probably july. does the rootsfest festival usually happen at the same time each year? what would be the best block of 2 or 3 weeks to hit the most folk music in vancouver or on the island?

Vancouver usually has a big Folk Festival in July, but I haven't heard much about it this year but if I find any information about it for this year or 2001, I will pass it on to you.

Here is another link that might be helpful, if you manage to get over to the Island. click here

Metchosin, Max played some of the MP3 files you sent him, on the radio yesterday and it was fabulous!! They were different from the ones you sent me..a woman calling a sea chantey and one other. REALLY FANTASTIC, I told them your bro was the mando player. Send some more!!!

kat, I sent him a lot of the "Lime Bay Mutiny, Live at the Blue Peter" sea shanty stuff and a couple of MP3s of the Walter Bodega Band as well. Unfortunately I can usually only get the archived versions of Mudcat Radio and I really wanted to ask Max to play "March of the Dogs" by the WBB.

Oh well, maybe he might be able to do it next week.

Actually, that was my brother singing lead, not the best I've heard him do, on the Bonnie Ship the Diamond, as well as playing mandolin. An old tape, but there is some great stuff on it, particularly for female leads.

Oops, thread drift.

'nut, if I find out if any of those are at the same time next year, I'll keep you posted and if I forget, just give me a nudge.

I dunno...but I never thought of myself as chatty until I came to Mudcat...now I seem to be a little gun shy......maybe because my husband sometimes rolls his eyes when I go off on a tangent and uses the old Cloris Leachman line..."Trust me....that is not an interesting story."

Just goes to prove Mud IS Thicker Than Water and if he'll join up, too, then he'd understand just HOW interesting it all really is!**BG**

kat it's not the stories from Mudcat which I relate that glaze his eyes, it's my own stories. It's actually a bit of a joke with us.

Yeah Mbo! I'm looking forward to Shooglenifty too! and Mandolerium of course! Are you coming out here?
