Subject: RE: memory loss and the aging vocalist From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 06 Jun 00 - 06:28 AM Research at the NYCFTTS (Journal of irreproducable results Vol 10 April 2000 pp1-13) shows that the older the performer the longer the introductions, the more frequent the interruptions mid-song for further stories to mask memory loss on the lyrics. This is known as reaching one's anecdotage. RtS[ who reached it a long time ago!] :oD |
Subject: RE: memory loss and the aging vocalist From: Barbara Date: 06 Jun 00 - 07:42 AM After I've had a songwreck, or someone near and dear to me has, I find singing this gem cracks up the audience Shit, I've forgotten the Words I've modified this one for contemporary US by turning the "packet of fags" into "an ATM statement" and using the name of one of MY friends who knows all the words to everything... And on the verse that begins "Sometimes they come back line by line as I sing/ Tonight I can't seem to remember a thing", Pausing a nervousmaking length of time after "Tonight" also get a howl. Blessings, Barbara |
Subject: RE: memory loss and the aging vocalist From: TerriM Date: 06 Jun 00 - 07:58 AM once again, a truly awe-inspiring set of hints, tips, facetious comments and irrelevent humour.I am so proud of you all! Bron, I thought your joke was priceless, had me giggling all day but I reckon the Mudcat Snog of the Day goes to Big Al for a far more sensible version of Frankie and Johnnie than I've ever come across before. |
Subject: RE: memory loss and the aging vocalist From: Sailor Dan Date: 06 Jun 00 - 08:07 AM Not being a performer, I have had some problems with memory. I had to go to my doctor for another problem and during the exam he did some blood work. It was found that (amongst other things) my Thyroid Glands had slowed down and were not doing totally what they should be doing. I was put on a pill called synthroid that supplements what the thryoid aint doing. One of the effects was a memory problem. The synthroid has helped so you might want to check with your MD just for the heck of it . Now let me see, what am i supposed to be doing now?? duh Dan |

We all have photographic memories, it's just some of us have the lens cap on, and others of us have no film...... RTS - get out of the gene pool now!!! LTS |
Subject: RE: memory loss and the aging vocalist From: GUEST,A fellow singer Date: 06 Jun 00 - 12:28 PM I have found that WRITING the lyrics down helps to cement the words in my memory. After I have taken the time to write the words, I can visualise them as I'm singing them.(TYPING doesn't work quite as well; perhaps because one doesn't have to put as much thought into pressing keys as into forming letters on a page.) I hope this helps! |
Subject: RE: memory loss and the aging vocalist From: WyoWoman Date: 06 Jun 00 - 03:40 PM That's true for me as well. Writing them longhand puts them in my brain much more solidly than just pecking at the keys of the computer. Probably involves a different circuit of the brain... ww |
