I am asking, as a musician who has been around and contributed a fair bit here, that this not turn into a flamethrowing thread. Our band is going through a crisis and I am a believer in the power of prayer and positive thoughts for help from my friends here. And I am asking this of other musicians/friends here. Please, I beg you, respect that. One of the members of the Conklin Ceili Band is a retired postal worker named Jim. He is a cantankerous old fart who plays guitar, fiddle, accordion, hammered dulcimer, banjo.................I have accused him of being able to play flatulence. He is cantankerous (as I have said) and I love him like a brother. He is indispensable to our band. He and his wife Darla have raised a wonderful family. And they have loved and played the music of our people for most of their lives. Darla is a wonder to behold. She is a wonderful human being, a wonderful mother and a phenomenal grandmother. As is the case in many families, she is the glue that binds that family together. If any of you met her, as big as the hearts are here, you would love her as well. Last night they took Darla to the emergency room and in the course of things discovered that she has a brain tumor. Jim is devastated as we all are. Please, my friends, pray or meditate or do whatever you do for this wonderful person. I would be so grateful. All the best, Big Mick |

Playing music with people you know and like and know your troubles is the kind of thing that can help. At the same time there's the closeness and the distance that's needed.
Whatever happens Jim's got hard times ahead, but he's got friends too, and so had Darla. |

And the sun was setting in golden streaks across the mountainside and when I looked to my right a beautiful muledeer doe looked up from the brush where she was grazing and stared solemnly at me as I drove by. It was a blessed moment and I felt -as I so rarely do these days - the presence of the Infinite and the assurance that I, we, are always in the presence of the magnificent intelligence and creative spirit that caused all this wonder to be.
