Subject: Festival Cancelled: Bad News From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 06 Jun 00 - 06:02 PM Sorry to say it's only bad news. . . . The Planet Earth Festival in Cheddar, Somerset, (UK) failed to get necessary licenses and has been cancelled. Shame Melanie won't be playing there. Yours, Aye. Dave |

Subject: RE: Festival Cancelled: Bad News From: SINSULL Date: 06 Jun 00 - 07:28 PM Dave, Is that the Melanie we all loved in the 60s - Smothers Brothers and Donovan fame? Didn't know she was still around. I am sorry you're disappointed. SS |

Subject: RE: Festival Cancelled: Bad News From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 07 Jun 00 - 08:29 AM Yes its the same Melanie, and there is a Folk connection to this thread. More news from the same source. -----Forward Message----- Sent: 04 June 2000 00:58 Subject: Greg Bandy Hi, everyone... I am writing to report some very sad news to all of you. I recently spoke with my brother, Mark Petow, and he wanted me to inform everyone on this list that Greg Bandy of DES Records died suddenly on Tuesday, May 23rd, 2000. Unbeknownst to many, Greg had been suffering with a very serious physical illness and his death came as a great shock to all who had been associated with him since the start-up of DES Records. As for what the future holds in terms of Borders and Melanie's CD, I have yet to get a hold of any of that information. Because of the suddenness of his death, much has been left up in the air and as my brother and his brother, Jerry, begin to sort through things related to DES, I will be better able to inform you all of any events that may be of interest. I would also like to say that had it not been for Greg Bandy, I would not have had the opportunity to help present Melanie (live at Borders) to you all in a way that was somewhat reminiscent in feeling to the Melanie of "way back," the one that we so hold so dear to our hearts. Having been present at that concert, I was just thrilled to see the faces of the 600 or so adoring fans who came to take part in that recording. Watching the ones who lined up for autographs after that first Borders concert and meeting those fans eye to eye, I was reminded so much of how and why I came to love Melanie's music so much. It is proof to me that you can "go home" again in a sense, if even for just an evening and that is a feeling that I won't soon forget. Greg Bandy held high hopes for DES Records and believed that Melanie would help to get his brand new record label off the ground. I am grateful that I had the honor of assisting him on this project. Sincerely, Patti Petow -----End Forwarded Message-----
