Subject: Anyone for Leigh-on-Sea? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 09 Jun 00 - 07:29 PM Anyone planning to go to the Leigh-on-Sea Folk festival in Essex 23-25th June?
Very enjoyable indeed, lots of good sessions, and all kinds of music ("Celtic, Bluegrass, Blues, C&W, Pipes, Folk-rock, Morris, Appalachian, Irish, North African, American – etc, etc.")- good beer, good fish and chips. Free camping.

Subject: RE: Anyone for Leigh-on-Sea? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 29 Jun 02 - 06:22 PM Manitas was dancing there so Bratling and I sat in on the Marathon Singaround for a few hours (about 6 in total for us), where we both sang, got our little certificates, and wish them all the best for the rest of the attempt! When we left they had about 14 hours to go to beat the record (it stands at just over 20 hours) and there had been NO repeats, even accidentally!! Lots of good singers, lots of new material and many more old songs that haven't seen the light of day for a while! Methinks things will get a bit thin at around 3-4 tomorrow morning, but there seems to be a contingency plan in place for that! The rest of the festival was good, except the Punch and Judy man was up against an extremely loud PA for the Famous Potatoes (whom I remember as a New Orleans Jazz band 20 years ago, but appear to have gone all Cajun), so was fighting a losing battle. Bratling sat and waited for him to start for an hour and more, the longest she has ever sat still and patiently waited, in her LIFE! I'm still in deep shock and Manitas is dead to the world! LTS

Subject: RE: Anyone for Leigh-on-Sea? From: Catherine Jayne Date: 30 Jun 02 - 07:45 AM We had a great time. It got busier about 3pm onwards with lots of great singers. We left at about 5pm and they were still going strong. I hope they meet their target of 24 hours. Cat x |
