Gotta blow my own horn here. As of this week I have some MP3's in the Folk and Celtic regions of mp3.com...my URL there is:

http://www.mp3.com/BillCameron

Just four songs so far, but more are on the way. Two of them have been on Mudcat Radio: "Gogama" and "Spring on the Mississippi".

Please have a listen and help yourself, they're all free downloads. For now.

Due to copyright issues, as discussed last week, I didn't upload my versions of "Peat Fire Flame" and "I Will Go". I'll have to come up with another way to make those available to interested parties.

I'll refresh this with additional info as new songs are added.

Thanks

Willie-O aka Bill Cameron

Thanx,

Nice stuff WillieO. I also particularly enjoyed Gogoma. I've not heard the tune used for Paddy West before.

Well it's pretty clear what my big hit is here...yesterday "Gogama" debuted at #382 in the "World Fusion" charts. #62,000 or something like that at mp3.com

The tune I used for Paddy West was out of Doerflinger, (I hadn't heard the song sung by anyone else) and turned out be be a variant of "Tramps and Hawkers".

New set added--"Sittin In Skibbereen"--which is the strathspey (?) Sitting In The Stern Of The Boat followed by "Skibbereen Lasses"

Sources: Sitting in stern: "The Airs And Melodies Peculiar to the Highlands of Scotland And The Isles"--edited by Capt S. Fraser (that's just the abridged title!)
Skibbereen Lasses: "O'Neills Music of Ireland"

"Gogama", my big hit single, has gotten as high as #251 on the World Fusion chart. People from my neck of the woods seem to like "Spring on the Mississippi" too.

Have a listen to the new one!

Also please let me know if you get any error messages from mp3.com when you try to listen. They've been telling me my computer is not equipped to play mp3's (it is too, on WinAmp)--then trying to get me to download "Music Match Jukebox" to "solve the problem". Sorry, no sale.

Nae stoppin indeed. Stubborn, that's us. Just put up another set of two originals but they haven't passed the mp3.com inscrutable scrutiny test yet...should hopefully be up there later today.

Thanks for the kind words. This is all pretty heady stuff...got me a semi-steady gig out of it already too! Details later.

...I live in McDonalds Corners Ontario about an hour west of Ottawa, a bit north of Perth.

The set of originals is up now, the second one in particular I'm partial too. Wrote it partly because as a guitarist I get tired of playing Em / D in sessions--this turned out a guitarists nightmare, takes awhile to learn the chords.

In fact these are both pretty good tunes suffering from TWAIN complex (Tune Without An Interesting Name). Anybody want to listen (OK that's optional but recommended) and make a suggestion?

that URL again is http://www.mp3.com/BillCameron

See yas at Fieldings on Sunday, everyone what's going...

YAY!

Great stuff, Willie-O! I've put you on the music page on my website under "My Friends" (well, you are one, aren't ya?) *BG* Since I just got a mandolin, I'll be using your tunes to study by. So, keep 'em coming!!

Thanks Aine & Little John. Of course I'm your friend Aine, you certainly have been one to me.

More will be forthcoming when I get a chance to do some more sound editing...

Refresh for shameless self-promotional efforts. (something I'm gettin used to)

Now six tunes on site...if you liked "Gogama" check out "Schottische & 3 Part Jig", another original set.

Also added bio info, links to friends (any Catters out there want to trade? maybe we should start a Mudcat mp3.com Station), and I've been added to a couple of Stations.

This thing is fun to keep up with, but it takes a lot of time away from (a)playing my new guitar (b) the Mudcat (c) the rest of my life ...

Oh, Willie this is great! I just finished listening to the Scottische and Three Part Jig Celtic music piece you wrote. They are better than pretty good Bill.
How about renaming the first one 'Really Good' and the second one 'Even Better'. I think those would be appropriate names.
Think I could ever learn how to play those tunes on my banjo?
Bill, I will continue to listen to the rest of your music.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

Bonnie

What is with the 'shameless' stuff? Why it should be proudly refreshing for all those who have a sense of taste.
So now I just finished listening to your Sittin in Skibbereen celtic pieces.
I found 'Sitting in the Stern of the Boat' to be a moving piece which stirred my emotions.
'Skibbereen Lasses' lifted my spirts and inspired me as it was building.
Well Bill I am doing the best I can as a reviewer. I do not have many descriptive words or experience under my music critic's belt but I am doing the best I can.

Well shucks and thanks. Jimmy Stephens is a wizard at playing and recording and that last track has him all over it...playing the fiddles and viola I think...(any fiddling you hear on any of those tracks is him not me)--Nathan Curry plays the pipes, not his usual instrument, sounds real good there.

As for the TWAIN set (Tunes Without An Interesting Name), the Schottische was originally called The Building Inspector, or The Staunch Presbyterian, but it just didn't take. The jig was an effort to make a weird Newfoundland/Quebec kind of sound that changes key in every part.

Oh guess what I am listening to right now? A new song on Willie-O's MP3.com.
Jackaroe is the tune. A trad English ballad, sung by Morag McNairnay & Celia Whalen with Bill on guitar & bass.
You got to check it out. The story kind of reminds me of 'Shakespearian in Love', but with a much happier ending.

Bonnie who is Mr. Cameron's most devoted groupie

Oh shucks. Thanks for the refresh Bonnie. Morag & Celia are a couple of "younger sister" type friends of mine (I never had a sister so I have had to acquire some along the way) who were living in a schoolbus in my friends junkyard on a BC mountainside when we made this tape...don't they sing purty together?

I've been trying to get some more mp3's together but the software keeps defeating me. In due course they'll come.
