This past weekend's sea music festival at Mystic Seaport Museum was quite an event. They brought in musicians from France and the Netherlands, as well as from different regions of the U.S. Two days of music from seven different locations around the seaport museum, and one could hear many, many sea songs you won't find in the major collections. The real revelation of this festival, for me, was seeing the incredible duo from Brooklyn, NY called "The NexTradition." They are Alison Kelley and Ken Schatz, and they are two powerful singers! They do work songs mostly from African-American traditions, and have great stage presence. Have any other Mudcatters heard them? If anyone out there gets a chance to, they are well worth going out of your way to see!
