Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: katlaughing Date: 19 Jun 00 - 12:08 AM Still going, with several listeners and a few with mics, willing to use them! I sang Desert Silvery Blue, Master of the Sheepfold, No More Songs, and Prairie Lullabye |
Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: Crowhugger Date: 19 Jun 00 - 12:29 AM I sang "Un Canadien Errant," but then Mr. Crowhugger had to get some sleep. CH. |
Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: SDShad Date: 19 Jun 00 - 12:30 AM Wasn't that a party! Well, actually it was goin' strong when I ducked out a few minutes after katlaughing. I sang:
Oh, yes, and apparently I inadvertenly invented a whole new hands-free way to hold the F9 key down while singing. And Mbo got nekkid. Man, am I glad I finally got around to getting my mic set up to sing at Hearme! What a marvelous experience. There were so very many good songs, and what a warm, supportive circle. I love it! Two quick Hearme questions on my way to bed: 1) Somebody mentioned in the text chat that there's a way to make the window bigger, but I missed how? 2) Is there any way to make it so that when you scroll up to read something you missed, it doesn't jump you back down to the bottom as soon as someone says something or joins/leaves the channel? 'Night folks. Many, many thanks for a wonderful evening. SDS (but not the Weather Underground) |
Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: IvanB Date: 19 Jun 00 - 12:30 AM I sang 'I Knew This Place' by David Mallett |
Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: Crowhugger Date: 19 Jun 00 - 01:16 AM Wow, SDShad, I missed "Northwest Passage"?!!! Next time, okay? I'll be singing along. CH. |
Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: IvanB Date: 19 Jun 00 - 01:31 AM SDS (and any others who might have the same questions), when you get to the first Hearme screen, if you look about halfway down the page under the 'Join' button, you'll notice an Options line with the selection 'Embed Text' checked. If you uncheck that box before entering the song circle, you'll be able to have a separate box, which can be resized, for the text chat. Although it won't stop the problem of text bouncing back to the bottom when you're scrolling upward and someone sends a comment, if you make the box long enough and wide enough, you'll have quite a bit of the recent 'sends' on your screen anyway. I generally make mine about half the screen wide and the full vertical length, with the directory, Jon's 'Lock' button and my volume control lined up at the left of the screen. |
Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: Noreen Date: 19 Jun 00 - 04:49 AM Don't want to appear ungrateful or anything, after last nights wonderful session, but do you think there is a maximum comfortable number for a 'HearMe' gathering? (I know there is a comfortable minimum of two!):o~ The reason for mentioning it is that I found it hard to keep track of the text chat at times, particularly with the 'bounce back' mentioned above. I wouldn't want anyone to think I was rude for not replying to a comment or question that I'd missed. Looking forward to the next time! --Noreen |
Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: Jon Freeman Date: 19 Jun 00 - 06:00 AM SDShad, 1. Since I altered the Hearme Entry page, there are 2 alternataves and it depends on whether the "embed text chat option" is checked before entering hearme. In both cases, the size of the window containing the list of names is fixed but if this option is checked, the text chat is of a fixed size and part of one combined window. If it is unchecked, you have to open the text chat window but it is a separate sizeable window. 2. Short of temporarily disconnecting from hearme, there is no way that I know of. Noreen, I think the most important part is the singing and what matters most is that there are people there willing to take a turn. I don't think we have ever had too many people but we have had times when nobody seems keen to sing and somebody ends up trying to "crack the whip" to keep things going. IMO, when the songs are moving freely, the number of people could get a lot higher than we have ever had without any problems and the text chat becomes less important. Also, it would be possible to create more than one hearme room dedicated for the song circle(s) but my personal feeling is we have too few rather than too many participants at any one time. Jon |
Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: SDShad Date: 19 Jun 00 - 08:27 AM Thanks, Ivan and Jon for the suggestions. I'll play around with it next time. CH: you're on. Next time we're on Hearme together, I'll do "Northwest Passage" again, guaranteed. Just too bad I won't be able to hear you singing along. But you've got to sing "Un Canadien Errant" again, okay? I missed that one. And Noreen, there was nothing even remotely rude about you last night. Just lots of marvelous singing and good humor. Don't worry about it. I don't think there's any way to catch everything said. Just like a real-life party/session. Best, Chris |

Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: MMario Date: 19 Jun 00 - 08:39 AM I haven't even been able to get in to listen lately, may not get a chance until sometime this fall, what with kids home and my summer weekends being out of town. But nice to know people are still active out there, and hoping I WILL be able to get back in sometime... |
Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: Dulci46 Date: 19 Jun 00 - 09:48 AM What does it mean when you are in Hearme and it says recording device in use, when you push the F9 key. |
Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: Mbo Date: 19 Jun 00 - 11:28 AM Oh yeah, I also played "Neil Gow's Farewell to Whisky" on fiddle with big ol' North Carolina thunder & lightning in the background... --Mbo |
Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 19 Jun 00 - 11:37 AM More's the pity, I couldn't get there last night. I had a command performance at my daughter's house (Father's Day, you know), and got home too late. Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: MMario Date: 19 Jun 00 - 11:48 AM Dulci - usually it means you need to shut down and reboot your computer. |
Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: Jon Freeman Date: 19 Jun 00 - 12:39 PM Dulci, you can try shutting down the hearme page and if that fails, close that and any other instance of the browser you used to enter hearme before going back. This IMO is worth a try before using the method MMario suggested (which works and often proves to be the only solution). The other thing to look at is "are other audio programs in use?" if so, they may need closing for Herme to function. Jon |

Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight 6/18/00 From: Crowhugger Date: 19 Jun 00 - 03:51 PM SDS/Chris, it's a promise. I'm heading for an e-free zone tonight or early Tuesday a.m. (meaning Mom's place), just for a couple of days' country serenity & canoing on a big puddle about 30 minutes south of McDonald's Corners. I could tune in to HearMe now or within the next three hours, otherwise maybe after Mudcat Radio, depending on work--a writing job has to be finalized by Thursday so Wed. could be bananas. Trying to finish it today. Do you know how to start a new hearme thread so others can find us? CH. |
