Subject: Berryman -- Question song
From: Barbara
Date: 20 Jun 00 - 06:37 PM

I'm looking for the verses to the Berryman and Berryman song, I think it's called "Comes To Mind" and the chorus goes:
I don't know. I'm no good with answers.
I get by on mostly two suggestions:
Put the curtain in the tub when you take a shower, and
Learn how to live with your questions.

thanks,
Blessings,
Barbara

Hi Barbara,

You have the chorus right.
^^
COMES TO MIND
(©1994, Peter & Lou Berryman)

1. Tomcats come to mind. Why are their feet paws?
Why are their butts tails? Why are their nails claws?
Why are their meals rats? Why are there tomcats?

Pear trees come to mind. Why are their legs roots?
Why are their arms limbs? Why are their tears fruits?
Why are their friends bees? Why are there pear trees?

(Chorus)
I don't know. I'm no good with answers.
I get by on mostly two suggestions:
Put the curtain in the tub when you take a shower, and
Learn how to live with your questions.

2. Skeeters come to mind. Why are their arms legs?
Why are their their meals blood? Why are their kids eggs?
Why are their wings blurs? Why are there skeeters?

Semis come to mind. Why are their eyes lights?
Why are their legs wheels? Why are their days nights?
Why are their brains guys? Why are there semis?

(Chorus)

3. People come to mind. Why are their claws nails?
Why are their genes pants? Why are their gods males?
Why are their socks wool? Why are there people?

Why are their meals cows? Why are their fields farms?

Nah, that's fine. Thanks, canoer. I've been meaning to spring for that songbook. I have the earlier one, and just after I bought it, they came out with the new all inclusive one, dang. I think I've got the song on tape, too... somewhere. It's on Double Yodel? or the one before?
Thanks again.
Blessings,
Barbara

Hi, Canoer - I added <br> line breaks to the Berryman lyrics you posted, and now it looks fine. I also changed the lyrics to the standard Digital Tradition format, with the title in all caps and the songwriter in parentheses on the second line. There's more info on posting lyrics in the FAQ thread.

I've sometimes wondered whether people outside the Midwest catch on to Berryman songs. I live in Sacramento, but I was born in Detroit and raised in Wisconsin. Blessings Barbara, who requested the song, lives in Oregon but was born and raised in Michigan. I went to a Berryman house concert in Chico, California, a few years back. Lou talked about their "Wisconsin songs" that they did not perform outside the Midwest because people wouldn't understand them. I was sure disappointed I couldn't hear those songs.

I just got back from a vacation at myt parents' home in Florida. The local paper had a story about a family from Wisconsin who saw an alligator crossing the road. The paper said they all got out of their car and ran around, shouting "By golly" and "You betcha." I tell ya, we midwesterners just don't get the respect we deserve, fer cryin' out loud.
