Hallo all, last night we had another earthquake 6.6 on Richter scale , and it was very hard one. It was only few kilometers from my home and I am not feeling very well at the moment, I havent slept at all since the earthquake came at 8 minutues to one .Best to you all, skarpi Iceland.

On the news this morning, they reported it is one of the biggest to hit a western nation. Our prayers are with you. Is shake rattle and roll going to become an Icelandic folk song now? Hang in there old friend.

Heya Skarpi!!, Hang in there dude it'll be okay, I however know what your goin' through, I lived in southern California for twentyfive years. I slept through most of them,...Then there was that one...I believe it was in July of 92? anyway I was awake for that one, and the aftershocks!!!I left shortly there after.Be careful,keep your wits about you(this is the hardest part)and be safe, you're im my prayers, -Biskit-

Hang in there! As scary as our frequent tornadoes are down here in Texas, I'd rather deal with them than an earthquake. I feel queasy just thinking about it.

It is so scary. During an earthquake is when I tend to feel that the earth is an unfeeling, uncaring powerful giant that has me by the nape of the neck.

A you-had-to-be-there touch: During the Alaska earthquake in 1964, a young couple was thrown to the ground outside their cabin, from where they alternately looked up at the cabin and down at it. She started praying aloud. Her husband shouted in her ear: "Louder! Louder!"

There was a programme on TV some time back all about the movements of the plates of the earth's crust. Iceland is one of the "new" islands being created by volcanic action all the time.
As you know, Skarpi, I visited Iceland as a child, and was awed by the rugged rawness of the northern part of your country, where earthquakes and volcanic action are a more regular occurrence.

My mother spent a considerable time as a child in Japan. One of the outcomes was that she is extremly sensitive to earthquakes. It is not unusual for her to call up one of "the kids" and say something along the lines of "just wanted you to know the earthquake was very minor, no problem." and then for us to find out that itt was SO minor most people didn't feel it or even KNOW it had happenned.

Hallo all, Everything is slow at moment a small earthquakes under 2 on r, but they say thar can expect one more a strong one. this morning at 08:30 on Icelandic time TAMÓRA my band played on the Icelandic Tv channel two in front of all the Icelandic people and it was great to think about something else at this time.Hopefully I can go to some other country In this autumn to rest my family. Tamóra played two songs I´ll tell me ma and a Instrumental tune called All the way to Galway, thats a very fine tune. To morrow night Tamóra is playing at Bluenight festival in a place in south Iceland.The songs are All the way to Galway,raggle taggle gypsy ,óró sé dó beatha whaile, I ´ll tell me ma and many more. all the best skarpi Iceland.

Glad to know that you are singing and playing through all this. Maybe this will help you feel a little better: MMario did a count of the all the songs on the Mudcat Songbook and came up with a total of 195 songs on the Songbook itself and another 214 in the Song Challenge! winners, for a total of 409 songs in 189 days, or a production rate of 2.16 songs per day! Everything quiet? They keep telling us NYC is overdue for a major quake. What am I in for? Ten years ago we had a 1.5 shake that woke me and found me standing in the hallway 20 feet from my bedroom. Funny aside: My son had been told that he could not rent the "Exorcist" but snuck a copy to his friend's house the night before. He woke up with his bed shaking and a collection of tins humming on a shelf. Scared the crap out of him!

I smiled and said "Mom is always right!"

follow the earthquake news at this English language news site and at an offical Icelandic meteorological site (Geophysics Dept.) seems there is a bit of over-reaction in some quarters...not that it is not a serious concern....
