Anyone got an extra to sell cheap or know anything about it so I can be educated before going shopping?

I use a little mike that came with my Walkman. They cost around $2 in this neck of the woods.

Does it matter what kind of computer or anything like that or is it all standardized? If I have enough sound stuff for the speakers to work, do I have enough to run a mike or do I need additional hardware?

Dear Mrrzy,

Here's the one I use - a Labtec AM-252 NCAT -- got it at RadioShack. I think if you have a sound card in your PC, you can use a mic. Mine works a treat and it just plugs into a spot in the back of the computer.

Mrrzzy, speaker and mike sockets are a standard size. If you have managed to listen on hearme, you must have a PC with a soundcard installed so all you should need is a mike to plug in.

One note regarding mikes: some users have commented that cheaper ones have outperformemed expensive ones for this use.

Jon's right about the cheapos being pretty good for PC use -- Mine only cost about $5 or so.

I have a Labtec Ncat AM-242 which I got at Walmart for $8.98. Seems to work fine, at least nobody's said "You sound like s**t!" when I could hear them....

Mbo, darlin', are you sure that's because of the mic? (just kidding, I just couldn't resist...) *BG*

Love ya, Áine

If you get a mike, and still don't get your voice across, it could be--it happened to me--that the setup of your sound card is wrong, or maybe one should say incomplete. When I first installed a sound card I could get nothing across. Someone suggested that I go to the soundcard's setup program, to make sure that microphone was enabled. Sure enough, it was not. Once I enabled the mike, I was in business. Go thou and do likewise, maybe.

The usual problem with playing at HEARME seems to be to high a recording gain setting which overloads th system. Try fooling around with this (it's on the HEARME page).

I could not make my mike work in HearMe, but it works very well under other programs. Since I discovered (!) that a WAV or MIDI file can be perfectly sent to HearMe just playing it with WinAmp or similar program while pressing F9 (and everybody listens OK) then I´m trying now to pre-record a WAV file (mixing MIDI and voice at will) and then goto to HearMe and play my stuff in complete silence. My first try today was lousy, cause when I sing I don´t get a feedback, get nervous and unpleasant, and the result is horrible. I downloaded a new "recording studio" software which supposedly will make things more audible. I foresee that the next step is paying a decent professional studio. More news to come. :))
Un abrazo - Andrés

No question in my mind, recording is A LOT harder than playing directly to people.

Something I have discovered is that the quality goiing out over HEARME is better then the quality I get recording from the same mike and computer Go figure.

Just one other comment, Mrrzy

I don't know how much listening you have done but both Aine and Midchuck (and Mbo when he's not too loud) come through very clearly here so perhaps the Labtech mikes mentioned can be considered to be "hearme approved".

There are several Labtec mics for sale on Ebay. Go to the computer section and type in microphone. Current bids $4-6. SS
