When I realized that there was no Thought for the Day - June 22 already running, I felt so... sad! that there was none, and at the same time, so appreciative of all that there have been, and I especially thought of Peter T.

I don't know why, Peter, but you have been much in my thoughts this week, and I hardly know you. But I want to say what your "Thought for the Day" threads have meant to me.

Sparkles of positivity dropped into a still pool that ripple out all around me once I read them...

Images in response to yours and everyone else's, flooding into my mind as I feel a response forming, that were asleep in a back room and not sensed, until the thread called them out...

A deep respect (reverence really) for what people feel and experience and think, and how they convey it, and what is revealed as important to them, and how precious each individual is, all glimpsed around the edges of the first posting and the responses...

A quality of your words that is so clear, so evocative, so powerful and yet so gentle...

Thank you for thinking of Mudcat when you have things to share, and for releasing us to share with you and each other.

So now I am wondering-- What do others get out of these "Thought for the Day" threads? How do they impact you, and the world round about you?

~Susan

I like them, they make me think on things I never really thought about before.... I may not answer each and every one but I do enjoy them and I look forward to reading them everyday. Like Shakespeare wrote in his comedy Twelfth Night "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, some have greatness thrust upon them" the whole of Mudcat has achieved that very greatness, likewise the thoughts and songs and poetry and jokes that I have seen posted here. Blessed be.

Suze, you ARE a big ol' chunk of sugar aren't you?

The TFTD's do all the things you described, a daily mini epiphany. I think it's a curse of modern society that people have come to rely on what they are given instead of allowing their minds to wander just a bit to decide how THEY feel. I think Peter wanders.

Though he has often mistreated the Waylon Heron and damaged the planet through thousand of air miles flown, Peter is indeed a very special person and we are fortunate to have him among us. And except for his unrepentant jealousy over Spaw songs, he's an okay guy....for an environmentalist Canadian anyway.

I kind of get my poetry fix from them - and as it has been written, poetry is awfully good stuff to think with. Something about someone else's words swimming up to meet one's thoughts...

Do you see an effect on lives around you, too? Does it tend to spread out from you into the day you have and the people you intersect with?

I have been out of my office today for an emergency (nothing a few pieces of official paper won't solve), and so was unable to get here. Anyway, thanks (deep blushing). I get far more out of having readers that are sympathetic, than you can get out of the writing. I get nice notes from people, and this kind of response is like pure oxygen. Amos (who is on holiday) and I have talked about this kind of spontaneous journalism, and how positive it is if it isn't abused. It is only differently special, if anything: there is all kinds of beautiful writing and powerful emotion well expressed on this site every day -- in fact, checking the above, I can truthfully say that everyone on this list has written fine words in his or her own way. I think it has to do simply with respect for any craft, folk music just happens to be the main topic of conversation (one that alas I am not good at, so I compensate with writing!!!!)

Apologies again, and thanks. yours, Peter T.

Catspaw, I promised Peter the next time I make up a tune that I will name it after him. I'll probably call it the Bashful Heron.

As for what I get out of Peter's Thought For The Day, I must admit it made me go out and buy myself a new dictionary.
I ponder on the thoughts, sometimes I give up and other times I am moved beyond words so much so that you don't physically see my posting.

I look forward to your Thought For the Day Peter, it makes me feel anchored in some way. I have the reassurance that every day when I pull up the Mudcat there will be at least one thread I looking forward to absorbing.
