I am interested. Hope we can get them in a color other than white (black,red,blue) and it would be great if the disign had a cat in it. I know a mudcat is a catfish, we even have a baseball team here in NC named the MUDCATS and their mascot is MUDDY the catfish. Maybe you could be "BIG MUDDIE" and give him a fiddle to play. I bet some folks would like hats too.

The prototype has (on the front) The Digital Tradition logo, above a smaller "don't look for songs without it!"

On the back, it says: Join the Mudcats at www.deltablues.com

Shirts will be (most likely) all-cotton in light blue. I expect they'll cost us (including postage) between ten and twelve bucks.

Yeah, I'm with Henrik and Sharon. Mudcats, nothing wrong with the name but for some of the professionals in our ranks might at least like a little explanation what we're all about. Something "musiclike" sounds important to me also

Light blue? Can you see through it? That is why I don't care for white ones, you can see through them, plus every thing shows up on them. A fiddle playing catfish would be an eye catcher, his whiskers are his moustache and you could give him a folksy hat and maybe overalls. Will there be an address to snailmail to?

How about a few other odds & ends, for those of us who don't wear t-shirts much ... in particular, carry bags, buttons, coffee mugs? Once the design is set, it's not much more complicated to transfer it to other kinds of materials ... Hey, this would help out with the financial support discussed in another thread!

We seem to be suffering from a surfeit of imagery and names. Between deltablues and Mudcat and Digital Tradition and music and fish and cats, I'm not sure WHO will get the idea. We're open to suggestions, though.

Mudcat is my pick and I see Muddie or Muddy playing a fiddle by the Delta. Gosh I wish I could draw what I see in my mind. He could be by a river which would unite mountains and delta. Muddie is repersenting both blues and folk music I take it. I'ld be happy just to have Muddie on the shirt, about 3 inches tall on the left side of the front of the shirt, no pocket. Maybe you would want him on the back and large. These are suggestions, I don't mean to be pushy.

I'll order it from Oz so I'd need to know the overseas postage rates too.

I like the idea of Muddie the catfish playing a fiddle, or something musical - a fiddle is a good crossover instrument between blues & folk, so I think it is a good choice for that reason.

since blues are a major part of DT, it would be nice to have a blue t-shirt...and I love the idea of a mudcat-fiddle-playin' amphibious creature.....

Dick.. T-shirt design is my business. I have been a professional illustrator and graphic artist in the imprinted sportswear industry since 1981. My work has sold in resort areas and national parks from Hawaii to Main, from Yellowstone to Disneyland, to Dollywood, and everywhere in between. I suggest you keep it simple as you first suggested, with a small front print with the logo, and your phrase on the back. A dark blue shirt with light blue ink printed on it would work better for both men and women than the light blue shirt. The Mudcat started at www.mudcat.com, then Ellicot Industries (a division of Caterpillar that deals with dredging equipment)threatened me to give it up. I ended up negotiating a sale and a donation to charity and I gave it up. Appropriately so because we sould be a .org because of our non-profit status. We can get mudcat.org, and I think we should. I'll still keep deltablues.com pointing to the same site we are all so used to, but mudcat.org may solve the too-many-identities problem. And if I keep deltablues.com, there should be no confusion for those used to that.

mudcat.org may be better on the t-shirt too. Any thoughts?

Just got back from vacation and purchased 3 tees and 1 sweat shirt. One of the tee shirts had a print of a real fish on it! (very handsome) Apparenlty they paint a real fish and slap it on the shirt to make the print. It is most unusual. This may be a somewhat high priced item but what a knockout!

Oh, I love it! I'm for dark colors, and mudcat.org would be terrific. I like the idea of the slapped fish - it works if you're more culinarily than artistically inclined! I hate slogans, but when I think of the tone of this database, forum, and catfish on the muddy bottom, and groups of people gathering to make music, I feel like JUMPING IN...

I can't say I care for the shades or the wave. I feel Muddie is a little more down home than Mr Hip or Mr Cool. I see him standing by a cypress on the bank of the Mississippi, maybe a straw hat, with his fiddle. Moss is hanging from the tree and maybe there is a riverboat off in the distance. He could be sitting in a rocking chair on a front porch of a little shack by the river. Gotta go for now.

Whippoorwill: I speak as one who's wife designs and prints T-shirts, and as someone who markets them all over the U.S. Don't be afraid of color. It costs $10 to $20 up front for each additional color separation, and the same for each extra screen. Assuming you start with a very modest initial printing of 10 dozen, each color will only add an extra 35 cents (max) to the cost of each shirt. And that's a one-time cost only. Factor in another (recurring) 15 cents per color during the printing process = 50 cents extra per color per shirt. Thus a six-color shirt (which looks great) will cost $2 more to produce than one with just black+ one color. After the first printing, any subsequent printing of the shirts incurs only the 15 cents per color extra. A skillful printer can also use half-toning and blending to make six colors seem like eight or nine. Thus, shirt designers should keep a good printer in mind, and work closely with her/him, particularly at the ink color (Pantone matching) selection stage to ensure a happy outcome.

Ok so my Mudcat sounded a little over the top. Yes I agree Coralena, a cool mudcat just wouldn't be right, but then I don't see him as some sort of hillbilly sippin' whiskey on the porch either.

I like the idea, however, of a Mudcat incorporated into a Celtic design, like the wolves designs, etc. I have one with dolphins which could provide the base to work with. For the accountants among youse (Whip - I respond to your valid point) you would only need one colour. EG dark shirts with highlight design or vice versa. Would that be simple enough for youse all?

Can't wait for the finished article.

Laoise, I have a strong adversion to anything promoting drinking. Do you believe folks from the Hills or Country are "some sort of hillbilly sippin' whiskey"? I love what is simple and basic and that to me is what folk music is.I was born and raised in the country and I don't sip whiskey but I am very fond of a tall cold glass of milk.

Mudcats and Mudkittens; I just got my Mudcat T shirt and it's beautiful. On Saturday, Bob (banjo bob) and I went to 111 music stores in and around Houston (Texas) until Bob found the perfect mandolin. I wore my MC T shirt. Well no one came up and asked for my autograph and while I'll confess that I've always been rather suave, debonaire and handsome, I felt more so in my MCT.. This is one crassly commercial message I'll totally agree with, though. Every true Mudcatteer needs an Official Mudcat T-Shirt. I wear mine every time I Mudcat. Since I've done a fair amount of Mudcatting since I got the shirt a few months ago, I suppose it might be time to wash it, but I have's gotten around to that quite yet.

Regarding the mandolin, Zorro, it sounds like Bob is in for alot of fun. I am very fortunate in finding a tear drop shaped Gibson [EM 150] electric mandolin in Reading Pennsylvania. They have a very nice sound but the factory electric takes alot away , but awsome with an amp.

Hey Zorro

I possibly have the same mando a Fender FM-52E SB with a bis butterbar pickup on it. I like it very much especially for the price I got it. The only draw back is the pickup is a single coil and has a tendency to buzz when I stand in the wrong place in relation to the amp. Any one got any suggestions as to how to fix this?
