It was about 35 years ago. I was about 22 and real pretty. But I was busted flat in Baton Rouge and hanging out with a smooth talking harmonica player in faded jeans. We decided to head for the trains but it got cloudy and was about to rain so I thumbed a diesel down and we got in for the ride. I started singing some old blues song and this guy takes his harp out of his dirty red bandana and plays along.

Anyway, we travelled around for a while but he kept going on and on about freedom being just another word for nothing left to lose. Finally, we were somewhere near Salinas and I couldn't take him anymore so I decided to slip away. I told him I was going to search for a home.

I ended up as a nun in a cloistered convent and was cut off from the world until about six months ago when I decided to come back to reality.

What di I find out? This turns out to be some kind of songwriter who tells my story and gets rich and famous from it.

Me I got nothing left to lose. But at leat I'm free.
