For those who remember the previous eponymous thread ...

I went to St. Louis to sing "Land of Hope and Glory" (lyrics provided by Mudcat Cafe) and a couple of other tunes for the wedding ceremony of a Missouri woman and an Englishman. What a disaster!

The bride was an hour and a half late. The bride. It seems her son by a previous marriage tried to sabotage the wedding. By the time she arrived, a lot of the unbounded joy of the occasion had fizzled out.

The church had a funeral scheduled for later, so they cut my act, and also a string trio that had come from Joplin. At least they had a chance to play while waiting for the bride.

Oh well, that's show business! == Johnny in Oklahoma City

Maybe you could have stayed and played for the funeral.

Must've really been frustrating! Spaw, maybe the funeral was for one of the wedding party?*BG*

Set list starts with, Bound for Glory, right? Good for either.

A good funeral beats a bad wedding any day.

Never mind - you've got a song in your repertoire now you wouldn't have otherwise; and you've a story that would make a good song (maybe a Talking Blues breaking into a variation on Land of Hope and Glory...)

TALKIN'FUNERAL BLUES

Went to play at a weddin' a while back
Couldn't understand why they were all in black
Woman said:"Son you got your wires crossed
It's not a son I gained but a husband I lost.
Still you got here and you brought your guitar
I'd rather hear a blues than a gospel choir.
Don't go doin' That old rugged cross
Give me Empty bed blues to show my loss
And then to further ease my mind
segue into A good man is hard to find"
So I did what she said and cut a dash
She liked my style and he'd left her cash
So when she started out the door
I begged to use a pallet on her floor
One darn thing to another led
Now she rocks me in her big brass bed
We plan to wed in church next fall
But we're not having any damn musician at all
And in my will I've made it clear
At my funeral no guitars appear

Either :
1)Natural brilliance
2)Bored at work and the boss out for the day
Take your pick!
