Could it be Winding Boy? I seem to recall a song
by that title from a Blues Project (?) album in the
60s, done by Mark Spoelstra (?).

Good tune. The way Winding is pronounced, it sounds
like Wining. Can't find it in DigiTrad. The only
verse I recall is the second or third:

Oh yeah, here's more, but don't remember the order:

Think there's at least one more verse that starts:

Seem to recall reading back then, when I was young
and consumed with Blues, that a Winding Boy worked
on docks or on Mississippi River boats, literally
winding the chains that bound, and/or lifted cargo.
Of course, I could have invented that. As we know
a good part of the 60s was pretty hazy.

However, I have no doubt that someone will leap
to correct any fallacies I have offered. Surely
someone can give you the whole song and links to it.

Yeah, Giac, nice simulpost :^) It makes sense that Winin' is short for winding, since it has no h, as in whining. Thanks for the info. I love the song, and now it makes much more sense to me.

Whinin' Boy was a character in August Wilson's AWESOME play "The Piano". Watch the Hallmark TV version for an absolutely mind-blowing version of "Alberta" sung by Charles S. Dutton and Courtney B. Vance, among others...
