Subject: Slow Airs & Set Dances from Ireland From: GUEST,Banjo Johnny Date: 26 Jun 00 - 11:31 PM "Slow Airs and Set Dances from Ireland" Eugene O'Donnell, violin Mick Moloney, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin Musical Heritage Society MHS 515910M ADD I've been enjoying this lovely CD recently. The tunes are quite polished, moderate in tempo and dynamics. Makes a nice change from your rough ceilidh band recordings.
The Downfall of Paris
Here's a question. The tune "Ni Fheicim..." is the same melody, note for note, as Stephen Foster's "Gentle Annie". What do you suppose is the reason? Are the Irish now borrowing from the Americans -- that would be a switcheroo!

Subject: RE: Slow Airs & Set Dances from Ireland From: Sorcha Date: 26 Jun 00 - 11:40 PM I have this album, and all the sheet music for it. My understanding is that Foster borrowed/stole it from the Irish tradition, and copyrighted the tune and English words he transliterated. It is a wonderful album and I play a lot of it. |
